Time to throw them ALL out?
I admit I wasn't able to watch the entire Rice or Gonzales hearings, nor the debate on Rice (no internet or tv at work)

However, what I was able watch elevated my disgust to new levels.

As I listened to the speeches and sound bites -- it ocurred to me that the point of the exercise was NOT to make a decision based on what would be best for the country -- but rather what would be best for politics.

Not surprising - Dem's had harsh critisism for Rice and Gonzales and the Repugs twisted themselves into a knot to defend the nominees and often resorted to attacking a particular speaker as opposed to providing convincing arguments in support of Rice or Gonzales.

The battle-of-blather resulted in Rice being approved, and it's expected approval for Gonzales will follow.

Time and time again we've had big speeches by Dems -- and then the Repugs feign outrage, the press puppies focus on the trivial "points" and Dems apologize.

As my partner puts it "it's all just bull-sh*t". I have to agree -- it's all bull-sh*t when the focus is on the politics and not on the issues.

What are the priorities? What are the issues? It's apparant the priorities are political power and the issues are lost in the battle-of-blather.

Politicos wrap themselves in the flag, wave the bible around and do a darn good job of looking "outraged". Questions are ducked, the "free press" collects a propaganda paycheck and the blather goes on and on.

I'm sick of the empty speeches, sick of the false "outrage", sick of the rubber-stampers, sick of the press-puppies.

We have real problems -- the economy still sucks, the Muddle-east is in a mess and will get messier, environment is going to hell in a hand-basket, terrorists are still out there, our reputation as a "free nation" is in the toilet and the big "issue" in the editorial pages was about whether or not a cartoon-sponge is gay.

so flame me if you want -- but I say it's time to throw them ALL out

Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 06:36 AM by Skittles
republicans put the interests of their party above the interests of America; it is sad and pathetic and scary but it is true

on edit - should read MOST Dems; just could not fit it in :o

2. IMHO

yeah, some Dems stood up, but they also quickly sit down when hit on the nose with a newspaper article

Boxer made some good points, kudos to her -- but the big broo-haha that followed was about an e-mail which contained requests for donations -- so the crux of her arguments and points was lost over the "outrage" of campaign donations.

on edit: Meanwhile, just take a look in LBN about what Cheney wore at Auschwitz -- over 200 posts. I could see the "outrage" if he showed up in an SS uniform or sporting a pair square-pants -- but PULEEEZE people -- who the hell cares what he wore. This is just trivial bull-sh*t. There are more important issues out there than a wardrobe faux-pas -- so stick him on Blackman's Worst Dress list and be done with it.

:sigh: I think I'm going to go put on some square-pants and move into a pineapple. Vote for me - free crabby-patties vouchers for everyone

11. good posts
I thought it sounded like my third grade daughter and her girlfriends talking about what someone wore to school when i first heard about the chastising of Cheney's manner of dress. It's hard to believe anyone would waste one single iota of energy to bitch what Cheney's wearing!!

3. No flame here, total agreement - it's all about getting and keeping
power - now that we have a ReThug controlled everything, none of the crap they've been promising their base will get passed, even though there's nothing to stop it. It's better to make half hearted gestures, blame the "obstructionist Democrats" and keep those campaign contributions pouring in. Sadly, if the House, Senate, WH and Supremes were all in the hands of the Democrats right now, I think it would be pretty much the same.

Every progressive sees the 'outright conservative bias' in the mass media - just as every true conservative seems the exact same media as horribly liberal and protecting left causes. Who's right? Both of them - the mass media exists only for the profits of it's owners. And true news reporting would cause blips and worse in the stock market, costing their owners millions. What profit to NBC to break a story wouldn't be overshadowed 10 times by the subsequent drop in GE stock? So what "shocking" news do we get to see? Scott Peterson, Kobe, Michael Jackson....The drumbeat to war was certainly good on the military industrial complex profit levels and was repeated day in, day out with all the high profile charts, graphs and "expert" pundit commentary. Now that we are there, they spoon feed only the good things, reporting numbers of registered voters that have no basis in verifiable facts - and gloss over anything that might be harmful to the owners stock values.

Our "elected leaders" are no better - regardless of party. It's all about getting re-elected. The first thing we should do in taking our country back from the corporate interests (after verifiable election reforms)is work on term limits and dismantling this entrenched 2 party system. The "consent of the governed" is not divided into exactly and only two political spectrum's - each marching blindly toward some party goals. At the end of the day, they were elected to represent "the people" - every Christian, Muslim, atheist, straight, Republican, female, gay, Catholic, Democrat in their area - to do what is best for all those people, not completely beholden to one or two at the expense of all the others.

The rare exception is the Congress-critter who arrives in DC without already being a millionaire, even rarer is the one who doesn't reach that lofty perch after being there for a few years. Catered to, ego fed, pandered and rich - what do they know or possibly remember about the common man or woman - the one who wakes up each day, struggles through work (if lucky enough to have a job), struggles to take care of their family, struggles to find time to maintain a healthy loving relationship - worrying about economic disaster in terms that the politicians know nothing about. It's not about that blip in today's stock market that cost a few thousand on paper (there's probably a tax savings somewhere that takes the sting out of even that type of loss) - it's about the very real decisions American's are having to make - cancel the health insurance so we can afford the rent and light bill - hoping to beat checks to the bank with a paycheck just to keep going. Knowing what it's like to go to bed not sure how to cover the expenses of the next day - and how close to living in the street some of these people are.

5. What if we held a constitutional convention
The entire fruit is rotten, and we need to grow another, even if the
net-changes are tweaks and adjustments, as in this age, constitutional
democracy has become much refined.

DO you think, that were a group of regular people from across the nation
were to have a constitutional convention to produce a new constitution
that it would not become a serious serious opposition, and alert the
media and the people to the dangers?

With the right planning up front, you could make sure the foreign press
showed up at the very least, and if the convention was truly grass roots
like a caucus, it could ratify a draft of a new consensus, and spark
a massive awakening on behalf of those who realize that corporate
government will never do anything else but serve its corporate and
industrial-war sponsors.

6. Absolutely throw them all out
I tired of Democrats voting the Republican way with "grave reservations" and a "heavy heart". Whatever. There is only party in Washington, the ruling party and they will keep spitting out the same B.S. as long as the voters let them.

7. I think they found Bush and Co at the casting office.
Does any one really think we can get this many nut cases in one city? This is the end result of Reagan closing all the state mental hospitals, for sure.

8. With the Nazis in total power, SECESSION is the only alternative.
I'm working with other Californians who have had enough of the Nazi Party. We are tired of being trapped in Jesusland and we are working for secession.

WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

10. The Sheeple Like It This Way
I'll think things are changing when I go onto a college campus and see demonstrations or find a copy of a free press with real news circulating around town or hear people talking about how bad things are. Right now, that's not the case.

There's little activity on campus' as many there still don't realize how bad and dangerous this invasion is and that it'll be their bacon that may be used as cannon fodder shortly. That hasn't hit home like it did in the Vietnam era. Many still think this is a neat video game on TV fought by hillbillies from West Virginia. The war hasn't hit college campus' yet.

While I see lots of people who didn't vote for this regime and will spew for hours how evil they are...other than words, I don't see much else. Most barely bothered to vote last year (bless their souls) and never bothered to volunteer or even write a check to help things out. I don't see that changing anytime soon. As long as people can fill up their SUVs, watch the football game and live in their selfish worlds that's all that matters. What this regime does is bad, but don't bother them more than lip service.

Yep, I'd love to take this country, shake it clean of all the corrupt politicians and live in Utopia, but I live in reality and 2005. With only a handful of the 435 House seats are ever contested and many will condemn the crap going on in Congressman and give their own Congressman/woman a pass...especially Repugnican ones.

I won't even waste eletrons about what's going on within the Democratic party. At this point, I see few, if any, real leaders there and many within this party still can't get a handle on what happened last November and what to do about it.

I'll gladly join with others on the streets...just like I did in the late 60's and early 70's...great times when there was a feeling that in numbers there was strength and the Nixon regime HAD to listen to us...and he did. I'll wait until I see some real dissent in this country...not the empty words most utter right now.
