BUSH DECIDEDS TO BUILD PRESIDENTIAL HELICOPTER OVERSEAS! |
|
"I am at a loss to explain why the Navy and the President would choose anything other than an all-American helicopter built by the company that has a flawless, 45-year track record," said Gov. M. Jodi Rell in a statement issued from her office. "It simply doesn't make any sense. I'm angry and I'm disappointed," said Rell.
Lockheed's winning entry, the US101, is based on a British-Italian AgustaWestland aircraft, now owned by Finmeccanica. The helicopter has several key components, including the main transmission and rotor blades, that will be built overseas.

8. $6.1 Billion for these helicopters. Is it just me or........... |
|
does anyone else think this is absurd? It kills me that everyone reports this as 1.6 billion. A crock of shit!
From DOD briefing: MR. YOUNG: The cost to go in the program is, in research and development, which includes the procurement of three test aircraft, five pilot production aircraft, which form the increment-one initial capability to be delivered in 2009, and also three of the increment- two aircraft as a low-rate procurement purchase. That's $3.5 billion of effort, to be followed by procurement of the remaining increment-two aircraft, 15 helicopters, for $2.5 billion. So the cost to go to the government is $6 billion -- $6.1 billion.
Q: One-point-seven of $6 billion is committed today?
MR. YOUNG: Committed on the contract today.
More: Q: How many aircraft overall and the total price?
MR. YOUNG: The objective of the program is 23 aircraft. And then, as I -- the cost to go on that program is about $6.1 billion, split between research and development and procurement.
Yes, ma'am?

21. Exactly--this is one of those issues that can |
|
be used to somehow raise the consciousness of his blind supporters. They hate people who don't "buy American" (even as they buzz around in their foreign-made trucks, a/k/a "SUVs".)

because it did. If spent, I want my taxdollars spent on a quality product. Seems like there are many that could care less.
