Brother Justin of HBO Carnivale' father was an Ohio Congressman
Clancy Brown, also known as Brother Justin Crowe in the HBO Series Carnivale' has roots from a long line of Ohio politicians....republican ones...

Clancy Brown has been noted to support Democrats but he sounds like a neo-conservative in his role as Brother Justin, the evil demon in the riveting series of good vs evil in the Armageddon battle yet to come in Carnivale'.....

Maybe that is why he can play the role soooo good.

Clarence J. Brown Jr.
Clarence James ("Bud") Brown Jr. was born 18 Jun 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Congressman Clarence James Brown Sr. He graduated from Duke University in 1947 and Harvard Business School with a masters in 1949. He served in the US Navy 1944-1946 during World War II and again in the Korean War. He worked for his father's newspaper company, Brown Publishing Co. from his youth until 1953 and again from 1957 to the present. He served as president of the company 1965-1976 and chairman of the board since 1976. He was a co-owner of the Franklin Chronicle in Ohio 1953-1959. He also owns a farm. He was general manager of a radio station in Urbana, Oh. in 1965. He was a delegate to the Republican Party National Conventions in 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1984.

Bud was elected as a Republican to the House of Representatives of the 89th US Congress to succeed his father when he died in 1965 and to eight additional terms, serving from 1965 - 1983. He did not seek reelection in 1982, when he ran for governor of Ohio but lost. He was appointed Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce by Ronald Reagan and served 1983-1988. He served on the board of the Overseas Private Investment Corp. 1988-1989. He was president and chief executive officer of the United States Capitol Historical Society 1992-1999.

He is the father of Roy Eldridge Brown, currently a Republican candidate for Congress and Clancy Brown, a well-known Hollywood movie and television actor.

1. Yeah, I was gonna say...
...every role I've seen this guy in, he plays some evil guy with a penchant for twisting religion.

link but it is my understanding he supported Kerry. That said as I think it is interesting with his legacy....he sure is fantastic in the role! He is soooo good, I think Jerry Falwell creamed his jeans listening to the radio address:

<snip>

here is a copy of Justin's "gathering of the masses" speech that runs chills down my spine every time I hear it.

Here is the speech Rev. Justin Crowe gives over the airways:

To hear the voice, preformed by Clancy Brown; aka Justin, is the most chilling narration I have ever heard!

<snip>

The clock is ticking, brothers and sisters. Counting down to Armageddon. The worm reveals itself in many guises across this once-great land, from the intellectual elite, cruelly indoctrinating our children with the savage blasphemy of Darwin, to the craven Hollywood pagans corrupting them in the darkness of the local bijou. From the false prophets cowering behind our nation's pulpits, to the vile parasites in our banks and boardrooms, and the godless politicians, growing fat on the misery of their constituents. The signs of the end-times are all around us, etched in blood and fire by the left hand of G-d. You have but to open your eyes, brothers and sisters. The truth is, that the Devil is here! The Antichrist, the child of lies, the son of Darkness, walks among us cloaked in the flesh of a man. Does the Lord not weep at this degradation? Does he not tremble with righteous fury? And shall he not seek retribution?" (scene with Ben and Lodz, as well as the fire) "I open my eyes, and I see a black sky that tears apart and screams with the voice that is thunder! Rise up! Rise up brothers and sisters, and take your place at my side! For you shall be my sign, and your faith shall shine like a thousand suns, and the streets shall be sanctified with the steaming black blood of the heretics! And together, brothers and sisters, together we shall build a shining temple. The kingdom that will last for thousands and thousands of years."

5. This is one of the best HBO Series
I have ever watched. I do like the Sopranos but Carnivale' can be watched repeatedly and you pick-up a new clue or find a missed point each time.

I do have to say, Clancy Brown is fantastic in the role of Brother Justin.

I tend to stand back and see amazing parallels of the *bush administration with the role of Brother Justin and his mission.....

Anyone else see the mirror image? Not that *bush could even shine Brother Justin's shoes but the collective mission is where I see parallels.

6. The opening monologue that Samson gave at the start of
this season sounded to me like the writers are definitely drawing parallels to the present day U.S., talking about the demagoguing leaders and so on.

I really like the show too, the actors, the sets, the costumes, the story, I love atmospheric shows like this. I think the young guy that plays Ben is really good too.
