2. Yes, very entertaining |
|
my 12 and 13 year olds loved it. We watched it shortly after F-9/11.

3. I went in with high expectations, and left a little disappointed. |
|
It's still a pretty good movie, it just didn't take shots where shots were due I thought.

4. I thought the same thing |
|
It was decent...but I went to it expecting a knee slapper and it's not.
I was thinking it was strictly a comedy and it's sort of a drama/ comedy.

5. Started out good, ended up weak, IMHO. |
|
Not a total waste of time, but I had higer expectations, epecially with Michael Stipe's involvement.

I thought it did a really good job of shedding light on what the fundies are really all about.
I did find myself thinking, more than once, that its sad that any fundies watching it probably wouldn't get it.
Best line in the movie: "I am FILLED with the love of Christ!" (as she throws her bible and hits the other girl with it) Sums it all up for me.

9. Yeah, it's a pretty good movie... |
|
Quite funny and ironic. You'll enjoy it. The end kinda whimps out though IMO. I also thought Eva Amurri (Cassandra, the token bad girl) was the best part of the movie. Macaulay Culkin also delivers a good, understated performance.

10. Humorous in sections... |
|
...the performances are rather uneven, though, and the plot line is predictable. The energy flags in portions and its characters seem a bit transparent.
Not as strong as it could have been. Somewhat entertaining on first view, but there was nothing in it that made me want to see it again.
Definitely no more than rental calibre.

11. My fiancee couldn't believe that fundies really thought like that |
|
Well, I clarified it by sharing with her my visits with my American cousin's church communities in the red states. Yup, there are people who think like that, who act like that.

14. Really really good!... |
|
My only quibble with it was that it still worked from the premise that there was still "a magic man in the sky" (although the fundies were wrong in their interpretation)
Michael Stipes production $$$ was his best work in years.

a Hollywood comedy that addresses fundie Christianity. We are probably lucky it was released in the first place. I think the person who wrote it must have had first hand experience.
