Ann Coulter on Bush: "Maybe he is an Idiot"
http://www.anncoulter.org/

WHERE'S THAT RELIGIOUS FANATIC WE ELECTED?

Maybe he is an idiot. On the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade this past Monday — I was going to say "birthday of Roe v. Wade," but that would be too grimly ironic even for me — President Bush told a pro-life rally in Washington that a "culture of life cannot be sustained solely by changing laws. We need, most of all, to change hearts."

Actually, what we need least of all is to "change hearts." Maybe it's my law background, but I think it's time we changed a few judges.

yeah, George Bush cares SO much about life. Considering that he is responsible for the deaths of 100,000 Iraqi civilians and 1,400 American soldiers.

6. What he means is
A pro-life culture. Republicans love stupid people who will overlook everything else and vote according to a single issue.

You are right though, how can the author of the bush family war in Iraq claim to be "pro-life" when he is responsible for killing that many people to advance his families business interests in the region.

I would love to have the mailing list of bush supporters. Somehow, I would find a way to mail every one a "personalized message" and "photo" of a dead or maimed Iraqi child along with a message.

"Thank you for liberating me from my family, two of my limbs, my eyesight, and the mineral wealth of my country which represents our national inheritance."

Most pro-lifers are Christian republicans who support the NRA, the death sentence, and the war in Iraq.

This is why you must accept their bull-shit on faith alone.

I'm a proponent of executions for murderers, rapists, and those who molest children. I favor the gallows, it is cheap, easy, and if properly done, painless. I know that lots of folks here will probably flame me for this, but, hey...the party takes all types.

33. Actually, it probably shouldn't be
...especially given the notoriously shoddy work done for Bush by Alberto "Hey, it isn't torture if we do it!" Gonzales in preparing summaries of Texas death penalty cases.

See the following articles:

The Texas Clemency Memos
by Alan Berlow
Atlantic Monthly, July/August 2003

Introduction:

As the legal counsel to Texas Governor George W. Bush, Alberto R. Gonzales—now the White House counsel, and widely regarded as a likely future Supreme Court nominee—prepared fifty-seven confidential death-penalty memoranda for Bush's review. Never before discussed publicly, the memoranda suggest that Gonzales repeatedly failed to apprise Bush of some of the most salient issues in the cases at hand. (emphasis added--Rob)

White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales's Texas Execution Memos:
How They Reflect on the President, And May Affect Gonzales's Supreme Court Chances

by John W. Dean, June 20, 2003, FindLaw

Excerpt:

"During Bush's six years as governor 150 men and two women were executed in Texas," Berlow reports in the Atlantic, "a record unmatched by any other governor in modern American history."

From 1995 to 1997, Gonzales acted as his legal counsel when the then-Governor decided whether to grant clemency, or to allow the executions to go forward. What kind of counsel did Gonzales provide? According to Berlow, he "repeatedly failed to apprise the governor of crucial issues in the cases at hand: ineffective counsel, conflict of interest, mitigating evidence, even actual evidence of innocence." (emphasis added--Rob)

Berlow writes that the memos reflect "an extraordinarily narrow notion of clemency." They appear to have excluded, for instance, factors such as "mental illness or incompetence, childhood physical or sexual abuse, remorse, rehabilitation, racial discrimination in jury selection, the competence of the legal defense, or disparities in sentences between co-defendants or among defendants convicted of similar crimes."

....

Bush's 'Blind' Justice in Texas Executions
by Derrick Z. Jackson, July 2, 2003, The Boston Globe

Excerpt:

(Writing in The Atlantic Monthly, author Alan) Berlow cited the case of David Wayne Stoker. Stoker was executed in 1997 even though one key state witness recanted. Another witness lied about having drug and weapons charges dropped in exchange for fingering Stoker. Law enforcement officials lied on the stand about the exchange. A psychiatrist testified that Stoker would kill again without ever having examined Stoker. Another medical witness had lost his license years before for felony falsifications of evidence. (emphases added--Rob)

Gonzales wrote about none of this in his execution-day memo to Bush. (emphasis added--Rob)

There was the case of Billy Conn Gardner. He was executed in 1995 for a school cafeteria robbery and murder even though there were no reliable witnesses and there were dubious deals by prosecutors that resulted in witnesses with ulterior motives for fingering Gardner. Carl Johnson was executed in 1995 despite the fact that his counsel slept through significant parts of jury selection. Gonzales, in his death-day memos, neither reminded nor informed Bush of such mitigating factors. (emphases added--Rob)

When Bush ran for president, other states, most notably Illinois, were examining themselves for tragic flaws in the death penalty. Bush remained proud of his system in which he took a mere 15 to 30 minutes to review final pleas. He remained proud even after several newspaper investigations and a Columbia University study found massive evidence of legal, medical, and law enforcement incompetence or lying in Texas death penalty cases as well as racial and class disparities in sentencing. (emphases added--Rob)

The facilitator
By Alan Berlow
Salon.com, January 6, 2005 (free Salon Day Pass required)

Introduction:
When Alberto Gonzales briefed George W. Bush on the cases of Texas death row inmates up for clemency, his memos were so shabby they seemed intended solely to make it easy for Bush to send prisoners to their deaths. (emphasis added--Rob)

....

There's more at Center for American Progress' Web site. The page is actually about Gonzales, but scroll down to the section titled, "As Texas Legal Counsel" for more info on his tenure as Bush's chief legal counsel in Texas. Negligence, incompetence, telling Bush he didn't have to adhere to international laws (sound familiar?), it's all there.

Excerpt:

DEATH PENALTY MEMOS: GONZALES'S NEGLIGENT COUNSEL: As chief legal counsel for then-Gov. Bush in Texas, Gonzales was responsible for writing a memo on the facts of each death penalty case – Bush decided whether a defendant should live or die based on the memos. An examination of the Gonzales memoranda by the Atlantic Monthly concluded, "Gonzales repeatedly failed to apprise the governor of crucial issues in the cases at hand: ineffective counsel, conflict of interest, mitigating evidence, even actual evidence of innocence." His memos caused Bush frequently to approve executions based on "only the most cursory briefings on the issues in dispute." Rather than informing the governor of the conflicting circumstances in a case, "The memoranda seem attuned to a radically different posture, assumed by Bush from the earliest days of his administration—one in which he sought to minimize his sense of legal and moral responsibility for executions." Atlantic Monthly, July/August, 2003 (emphasis added--Rob)

Personally I don't think Roe V Wade will ever be overturned and the only way will be to change people hearts and minds.
We need;
contraceptive education and availability - abstinance only education is NOT working.
a program (either federal but hopefully private) that will pay all pre and post natal care for mother and child for adoptive situations, many women (especially the young) get abortions because they think can not afford in $$ what a pregnancy costs (sad but true)

------------
OK, just plain creepy.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1329355/posts?page=50#50
Each and every major social problem we have in this country is caused by sin.

Abortion is about covering up the sin of those who sleep together outside of marriage.

Eliminating premarital sex eliminates sex ed, eliminates the worries of parents about their kids having sex and getting pregnant.

The choir speaks!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1329355/posts?page=56#56

That "speech" he made for the pro-life rally was not even a speech. He wasn't there. He called in on the phone even though the rally was right in front of his house."

Here, "inside the Beltway" that is known as "distancing" oneself. After all, they aren't useful any longer.

I'll take Annie's truth over W's any day. It's getting so
dicey that I am beginning to think that all the "born agains" who voted for him need to pray daily for God to hold his feet to the fire with regard to what he claimed to support during the election rhetoric and lay a "Mizpah" against the whole business. (Mizpah=God watch between thee and me)

God bless that woman. I'd vote for Ann over the W's any day.

I would like to think that this does not show his priorities for abortion, but I fear it does. Bush has done very little in his first term about abortion, and he has even tried to elevate pro-choice judges to high positions (Miguel Estrada among others). He must be held responsible by pro-lifers.

#86
The unpleasant truths that many on FR don't want to hear... but truths all the same. Keep telling it like it is.

-----------
And then we have those who choose to blame a Clinton, yet again!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1329352/posts?page=7#7
I suspect Hillary was trying to divide the pro-life movement between those who are against abortion in all circumstances and those who will make some exceptions. By implication she doesn't respect the latter (although of course she admires those who support abortion on demand).

of the mother's life-or rape.

From your link:

.....I've never heard of anyone who thinks abortion should not be "available" to save the life of the mother. There was never a law in any state that prohibited abortion to save the life of the mother. If Hillary "respects" even this (nonexistent) lunatic fringe of the pro-life movement, she must adore the rest of us! ........

is an activist court. Isn't that what the right is always complaining about? Activist judges?

They only want judges to be activist when it suits their agenda. Overturning an existing law that has existed for 32 years would be an act of judicial activism.

This is everyman who thinks it's cool that there's a guy like him in the WH. It's a compliment when an "elite" writer who would call him an idiot also calls * an idiot.
