abortions. I mean when all of these men are taken to court for child support it is going to be absolutely hysterical.

Just like all unjust social policy.

What men don't seem to realize (or remember) is that 30+ years ago, when a woman got preganant, there was no way to determine who the father actually was. Blood tests could prove who the father wasn't or who the father could be, but there was no 100% accurate paternity test. Therefore, when a woman got pregnant, a guy simply trashed her reputation and told people she slept with a lot of men so anyone of them could be the father as well. It was her word against his. Men and boys walked away without any problem or any responsibilty.
Well ... times have changed. It's no longer her word against his - it's DNA tests and 18 years of child support. I wonder how all those men are going to feel when their girlfriends get pregnant or their 14 year old sons end up having to support a child? They obviously haven't thought this thing through ... and the cold reality of the situation is going to hit them hard!

7. yes, it would. it will be really interesting to see. I remember on cops |
|
they tracked down a guy for child support payments. he was crying saying that he was going to lose his job if they arrested him, and that he had a family to feed. the cop replied to him, you should have thought about that when you left your first family.
I feel sorry for the females of this country, but maybe, maybe, people will wake up to this crap.

6. there will always be abortions |
|
just not for the poor. But for Newt's latest girlfriend? Sure. I think America would be shocked, shocked! if all the wives/girlfriends/one night stands came forward and said they'd had abortions after pressure from their conservative/rightwing/fundamentalist boyfriends/husbands/one night stands. The truth is, men don't really want abortion to be illegal. Just some men. And Bush is playing a game. He needed the pro-life votes. But will he come through for them? I think he'll dodge. It will be one more issue, he'll sincerely say he supports...but it will quietly slip away despite his "best efforts". (by the way, Bush also promised to get to the bottom of the outing of a CIA agent by the White House (treason), find the Anthrax killer, find Bin Laden, and hold people in his administration accountable. His track record is pretty weak.

5. Abortions will not be ended in this country |
|
no way. That certainly isn't the intention of most neocons. The issue is and always has been window dressing for a lot of politicians.

Most Americans are in favor of legalized abortion to a certain extent. At least, that was the consensus last I heard.

8. If you mean overturning Roe |
|
then abortion will not end, it'll be regulated by the several states rather than the Federal government. As to child support, fathers need to pay it. It takes two to tango.

9. I imagine there will be some states whe it will be legal. |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 06:31 PM by okieinpain
but it will end in states like oklahoma, kansas, arkansas. it will also be funny to see the red states that it does not end in. like texas, or Louisiana, how about nevada.
I understand this will cause untold amounts of pain for some. but I've said before that there are a lot of women, who don't vote because they feel there is no difference between the two parties.
