NoChildLeftBehind REQUIRES giving military recruiters children's phone #s
Giving new meaning to the phrase "No Child Left Behind," the feds now have the information they need to call your son or daughter any time they want to, but they also have a nifty list....the perfect thing to make sure that if and when a draft is reinstated... no child... yours included... will be left behind in the dragnet.

A little known provision of the 2002 No Child Left Behind Act MANDATES that school systems turn over names, addresses AND phone numbers of their students or face the possible loss of federal funds.

2. That's been out in the public ever since NCLB was in debate
It's shocking to me that so few people know about this.

That information actually was published before the bill was passed.

4. A parent can withhold consent. I know. I created my own form!!!
I was pretty angry when this bill included a provision stating that federal funding could be withdrawn if a school failed to provide students' information (unless a parent objected via specifically withdrawing consent).

5. Parents can opt out-yes, it ought to be opt in
Some schools have sent home info papers at the beginning notifying the parents this is going on.

8. Schools that get fed funds have to send home forms
Schools that get federal funds for anything (meaning public schools but not many private schools) have to provide information and forms to parents telling them that they must give military the kids name/info. If they do not give this info and opt out forms, they can lose funding. TeenPeace had a rally in local highschool last fall, handing out these forms and telling people the HS could lose funding due to their not doing this. Guess what came in the mail a week later. The forms. However, most of the students had already signed forms and turned them in. The students OR the parents can sign these by the way.

10. Over 18
If your high school son or daughter is 18 or over there is nothing a parent can do. The military WILL CALL them. There is no opt out. This was the case with my daughter 3 YEARS AGO. This is nothing new. The recruiter would NOT stop calling her until she had to tell him, "SHOVE IT", literally.
