Did anyone watch the NBC Nightly News tonight?

There was a propaganda segment on the Iraqi elections, focusing on the role of the 1st Air Cavalry Division.

They showed film footage from "Apocalypse Now", which was about the same division. Most importantly, at the very end of the segment, they showed the Robert Duvall character saying the classic line "It smells like victory." What they failed to show -- and it was telling -- was the line immediately prior to the statement: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning".

That pissed me off. It glorified the Vietnam war and this damned invasion.

2. It reminds me of that Wrangler Jeans commercial that plays Fortunate Son

Up to the end of the first line: "Some folks are born, made to wave the flag, ooh they're red, white, and blue..."

But cutting it off before the second line: "And when the band plays Hail to the Chief, oh, they point the cannon at you."

Thereby leaving the viewer with the false impression that it was some sort of rah rah jingoistic anthem.

3. I just happened to see it

as I was flipping through channels.

I agree, the omission of the more famous line, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", was very "telling".
