Whitman: GOP foiled security efforts
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 08:16 AM by Postman

In her new book, "It's My Party Too," former New Jersey Gov. Whitman -- who was head of the Environmental Protection Agency as the debate raged in Congress and the Bush administration -- placed the blame squarely at the feet of chemical-industry lobbyists and congressional Republicans

"Although both Tom and I agreed such legislation was necessary, strong congressional opposition -- led by some Republicans on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee -- to giving EPA even this modest additional statutory authority made it difficult to secure administration support," Whitman wrote, singling out Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-La.) for blame

........wasn't it James Inhofe who declared to be "outraged at the outrage" in regards to the Abu Ghraib Torture? Would he be outraged at the outrage that would be fomented if a chemical plant were attacked and hundreds perhaps thousands of people died? What an ASS.

4. your indignation is understandable...
I feel the same but, we must embrace these "moderates". If there is any hope of stopping the fascist Bush adminstration, "moderates" on the other side must see that they are embraced by the left to maje it easier to be critical of these bastards.

2. Yet she marched in lockstep into the voting both to vote for *
Probably lining herself up as a "moderate" so she can run for Senate in 2006 in NJ.

3. Considering how high the stakes are
she might have spoken out louder and sooner. Nothing will happen to protect our chemical plants until there is an attack and thousands die. Industry is worried about money, but the lawsuits following an attack of an unsecured plant would surely be more expensive than protecting them now.

5. No it's not
"The chlorine train wreck in South Carolina is likely to get some people to wonder whether they should reconsider their positions on this," Corzine said.

7. Whitman IS moderate, very moderate
I can't forgive her for not campaigning against Bush. If she did, that may have swayed some voters. I understand and agree with all of the indignation, but she is probably more liberal in alot of ways than alot of "dems" in the Senate. She could be a decent allay in the Senate.

The scuttlebutt was she was extremely unhappy in the EPA right away.

For all of her faults, Whitman is very pro-environment, and that's why all of my redneck freeper relatives in NJ HATE her. They are crabbers,a nd she put restrictions and protections on alot of areas so that they couldn't be developed or crabbed for a while. The Chesapeake Bay is kinda crabbed out, and protections were put into place in the Delaware Bay to stop this.

Whitman has alot to answer for, but she isn't the devil. Lieberman is MUCH worse than she is, and he shilled for Georgie almost as much.

8. Media/political consultant to Christy..."Honey, just write a book."
Christy has a hard sell in New Jersey. An affluent, well educated, and a socially reasonable populace needs more explaining for their past Gov's move into the ** whorehouse.
