A different take on the elections |
|
I don't think I've seen anyone present this perspective on why the Bush administration has rushed into these elections. They want a way to get troops out of Iraq, without being seen as having quit on their mission in Iraq. If an elected Iraqi government asks the US troops to pull out most of their troops, then they can do it claiming succes. The troops will then be freed up for the next invasion, Iran or Syria or whoever they choose. Once there is an elected government, the US can use the more covert and less costly measures of influencing their government like we do in other countries.

1. * does not want to pull out period, in fact he wants military bases there |
|
so it will be easier to attack surrounding countries like Iran. * has bigger plans for that area of the world, he wishes to conquer it.

3. I don't mean fully pull out |
|
I mean pull out the bulk of the troops. They obviously want to keep permanent bases in Iraq, and troops to protect the oil wells.

7. Now that's an interesting point. |
|
There is no love between the two, if I understand things correctly. But would the Shia of Iraq fight the Shia of Iran?

long range plans for Iraq. Got to keep the oil safe, ya know. The elections are there as window dressing to showcase our success in this crusade..er..I mean campaign to spread freedom.
We are there until the majority in this country stand up and demand we leave. It'll take overthrowing the media as well as this Administration.

6. Bush* said yesterday that the US wasn't leaving |

Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 10:52 AM by Ilsa
but why should we believe anything he says? Of course, I hear we are building a military infrastructure there for a long term presence. But yes, we might decree that the Iraqi police are trained and bug out to go invade Iran.
Of course, Shrub could always draft the children of 'Murica in his Culture of Death.

9. Iraq will be "threatened" by Iran and ask us to help them |
|
The newly installed puppet government in Iraq will immediately claim that Iran is threatening them and request assistance from the US.
A staged event will raise tensions and allow Bush to "cowboy up" and come to the rescue.
This will be followed by much breathless excitement by the RW media.
