It's kinda cute how Americans think elections = "road to democracy" |
|
So if the Iraqi people elect Saddam Hussein, or "Saddam minus a mustache" Allawi, or any of a wide assortment of dictators for another dictatorship, or any of an even wider assortment of Shia thoecracies, will Americans still say Iraqis are "on the road to democracy"?
Probably. No wonder we've lost our democracy; most don't know what the hell it even means. :eyes:

1. but but...thats what our "leaders" tell us....... |
|
You would think since 2000 that folks would have a clue what a joke elections can be.
Doesn't everyone know that whoever gets elected in Iraq has already passed the US test of approval or they wouldn't even be on the ballot.
This is a farce & I doubt many Amerikans have a clue...or really care anyway....cause I mean, after all, we ARE bringing them Democracy - whether they want it or not.

3. I add my voice to yours, this election is no more fair then our own |
|
when all the Iragians voice are not heard and it is controlled by the US and *. We personnally know what this man's actions mean and they have never been about fair elections in any country certainly not our own or another country which he hopes to control in the future. Watch up Democrats who think otherwise, this is why the Repubs keep beating up on us again and again, Watch UP.

4. Did we have one? I mean a "real" election/selection? |
|
I think Iraq is about to get the same as long as Negroponte and Allawi are in charge. Unbelievable. We here in the US know nothing of our history. Negroponte, Ambassador to Iraq, spells nothing but trouble.

5. If a foreign power invaded and occupied |
|
the US, killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, and then tried to set up a sham "election" full of candidates supporting the occupiers, would Americans consider that to be "democratic"?
We're a nation of ignorant "morans."

7. Do you really believe that the US media = the U.S. citizen? |
|
Most people are only as informed as the news they watch. You shouldn't insult the American people.
Like Bill Clinton said, given all the facts, the American people will make the right choice every time.
The fact is that the American media has not effectively scrutinized anyone the Bush Administration has put forward for any position, including Bernard Kerik (who was pulled when it became obvious that he was waaay too dirty, and for reasons that were the tip of the iceberg) and Iyad Allawi.
You shouldn't paint all Americans as ignorant...half of us voted for the other guy, you know.

8. They're acting as if our original intent was to instill free elections or |
|
something. Gee, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Bush invaded because weapons of mass destruction were all over the place in Iraq. How convenient that Bush covered up his monumental blunder for oil by changing his tune to "instilling democracy and freedom" with these elections that he'll surely give himself a global pat on the back with. What a joke. As if he ever cared one iota about these elections when he was planning to attack for oil.

9. It's funny that people think voting once every 2-4 years is "democracy". |
|
Or "freedom" is having a Plutocracy control just about everything..
It's also a hoot that we had long periods with a Democratic Congress, with a few Presidents too, and this country still doesn't have Universal Healthcare and a slew of other modern policies.
It's truly a gas when even in a huge turn-out election this last last year we still can't break 70%.
<sigh>
We lost our democracy? Who's democracy? The top 2%'s democracy, Capital's Democracy, Property's Democracy, that's what. But wait, they're still gonna be fine, Kerry's still rich, Edwards has locked himself in the ivory towers of Chapel Hill. It's everyone else, that's either continuing to get a kick in the ass, or a few members of the "I'm new to getting my ass kicked" class, that are really going to get it.
I'm crying crocodile tears...
