Help me refute this racial profiling e-mail
I hate it when these repub thugs that do business with the company I work for send around these idiotic "chain" e-mails. I thought it would end with the election.

I always send Reply To All with my own comments and I would like to do it to the one received today. It is a "history test", example:

1. In 1968 Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by
a. Superman
b. Jay Leno
c. Harry Potter
d. Muslim male extremist between the ages of 17 and 40

2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by
a. Olga Corbett
b. Sitting Bull
c. Arnold Schwarzenegger
d. Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40

......It goes on and on with questions and the answers are always D and finishes with this:

"So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone because of profiling.
<snip>
Come on people wake up!!! Keep this going. Pass it on to everyone in your address book. Our Country and our troops need our help and support."

I want to reply with my own examples such as OK City bombing, Anthrax, etc. all done by Americans as well as info. about how wrong profiling is and how unAmerican it actually is based on the ideals this country was built on.

If DUers can give me more examples of American terrorism and/or why profiling is bad, I would greatly appreciate it.

3. I suggest taking a look at your local/regional paper.
There are bound to be a few murders, sadly. And probably all committed by WASP men.

4. John Walker
White, American male. Taliban.

hmm.

I don't know why people don't think it would be possible for terrorists to recruit caucasians to commit terror attacks. Especially if white males could just breeze through security.

And, actually, if Kerry were president right now I would be completely terrified or potential terror attacks. Not by Al Qeada or muslim extremists, but by right wing "Christian" militia extremists who are hell bent on killing liberals.

This kind of trash is being spread around by racist, fascist assholes who want to see muslims ripped out of lines and forcibly searched while they meanwhile waltz through security. That is why Bush is doing so well among these creeps. They want to be lied to, they want the illusion of safety, but they aren't willing to do the work or make sacrafices.

They figure that if they can see an arab getting pulled out of line, searched, and possibly roughed up by security, then Bush must be doing a good job protecting America. But if anyone tries to search them, they go nuts. They don't want to be bothered.

But, who is it that blows up Planned Parenthood buildings and murders doctors? Is it muslims, or is it white, middle class "pro-lifers"?

Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:20 AM by unpossibles
just kidding. :D

I tried to explain to my dad that since Islam is a religion and that not all Middle Eastern People are Muslims, and that not all Muslims are terrorists, that profiling does not truly do any good other than to foster racism.

If I were you, I would also point out the cases of profiling gone bad - the German Muslim who was falsely arrrested and tortured, the guy in Florida at the pilot school... there are others. Look in the 9/11 forums for more info.

Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:19 AM by soleft
Because he's a major league lefty and his wife sent this email to me. I was really shocked and asked him - wtf is up with this, and he got very defensive and tried to explain why she might have thought it was okay.

I decided to let it drop but I was shocked and appalled that someone who hates Bush and the GOP and the war would send an email like this.

I did reply to her tho

I just said two words - Timothy McVeigh

7. Random security checks are best, otherwise the bad guys could
use operatives who look "good" enough to beat the profiling efforts. There was a study published on this around the time the new security efforts were started.

Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 10:23 AM by tasteblind
It went, "White male invades foreign country, kills millions of Jews"

"White male drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc"

Kinda made it seem silly.

Edit: He also mentioned Tim McVeigh.

11. I just found this! Cut, paste, reply all. The Chimp in Cheif Speaks
on matters of Racial Profiling:

"I can't imagine what it would be like to be singled out because of race and stopped and harassed. That's just flat wrong, and that's not what America is all about. And so we ought to do everything we can to end racial profiling. One of my concerns, though, is I don't want to federalize the local police forces. I want to -- obviously in the egregious cases we need to enforce civil rights law, but we need to make sure that internal affairs decisions at the local level do their job and be given a chance to do their job. I believe in local control of governments, and obviously if they don't there needs to be a consequence at the federal level. But it's very important that we not overstep our bounds and I think most people -- most police officers are good, dedicated, honorable citizens who are doing their job, putting their lives at risk who aren't bigoted or aren't prejudiced. I don't think they ought to be held guilty. But I do think we need to find out where racial profiling occurs and do something about it and say to the local folks, get it done. And if you can't, there will be a federal consequence.
...Arab-Americans are racially profiled in what is called secret evidence. People are stopped, and we have to do something about that. My friend, Senator Spencer Abraham of Michigan, is pushing a law to make sure that Arab-Americans are treated with respect. So racial profiling isn't just an issue at local police forces. It's an issue throughout our society. And as we become a diverse society, we're going to have to deal with it more and more. I believe, though -- I believe, as sure as I'm sitting here, that most Americans really care. They're tolerant people. They're good, tolerant people. It's the very few that create most of the crises, and we just have to find them and deal with them."

Apprently, Bush's base aren't the good, tolerant people he thought they were in 2000.

This was taken from the second debate of 2000.

13. You could use the Prescott Bush story
of helping the Nazi's during World War II. Maybe a question like "who was the director and shareholder in Union Banking Corporation established to send American capital to Germany to finance the reorganization of Nazi industry" and of course D would be grandpappy Prescott Bush.

Here's a link where you could actually get a lot of questions with the answer either being Prescott Bush or his other grandpa George Herbert Walker.

17. Thanks! Here is what I have put together from everyone's input:
Any thoughts?

After you finish taking that test, continue with your history education by answering these Fill-in-the-Blank Questions:

1.The Oklahoma City building was bombed by a_______________
2.The 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta were bombed by a ______________
3.The Unabomber was a _________________
4.All evidence points to the anthrax-mailer being a _________________
5.Ronald Reagan was shot by a ______________________
6.John F. Kennedy was assassinated by a ______________
7.Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated by a ____________
8.John Lennon was assassinated by a ___________________
9.The Israeli spy uncovered at the Pentagon was a _________________
10.The traitor who outed the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame was under orders from a ___________
11.Over 900 people committed suicide under order of Jim Jones, a ______________

Extra Credit:

Based on the answers to the above questions, this country is full of hatred from the __________________, therefore it is conceivable for terrorist groups to recruit a _____________________ to commit terror attacks. Especially since they can just breeze through security. For example, John Walker a __________________ was a member of the Taliban.

Answer to all of the above: White American Male

You may also want to consider what the President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, had to say on the matters of Racial Profiling:

"I can't imagine what it would be like to be singled out because of race and stopped and harassed. That's just flat wrong, and that's not what America is all about. And so we ought to do everything we can to end racial profiling. One of my concerns, though, is I don't want to federalize the local police forces. So as the original email stated: Pass this on to everyone in your address book. We do not want our friends, family and our American society to “ feel doubly ashamed of themselves - if they have any such sense” Because nothing is more shameful and senseless than the ignorance of bigotry. Our Country and our troops need our help and support.
