Commentator explains relative lack of violence during Iraq vote |
|
He noted that the relative lack of violence--only 44 killed--came from the fact that the US had banned *all* vehicles from the street and completely closed the borders to all traffic. Since a total lockdown on vehicular traffic isn't possible, the lack of violence for one day isn't at all indicative of peace being maintained.
Yet, the MSM is stating that the insurgents might be thinking that the US and Iraqi forces have the upper hand now. It is more likely that they can't plant IEDs or make suicide runs or escape from NON-suicide attacks if they are on foot.

1. I read elsewhere that the Iraqi resistance (not the Jihadis) |
|
had said it would not try to stop the elections, and had told the occupation of this. It appears the Jihadis gave it their best shot, but the Iraqis kept their word, and I think that was a wise choice. It was a UPI story, so take it with a grain of salt.
