representing the Iraq vote....yes, I am so happy for the Iraqi's right to vote, but the Repugs are gloating. It was not about democratizing Iraq...It was about bombs!!

12. Isn't it weird how history repeats itself.
This happened in 1967 in Vietnam when Nguyen Van Thieu was elected president.

I guess the republicans have to do what they have to do to garner support for their next war. I find it amusing that they have to trumpet this as some huge blow to terrorism and the war on terror. I wonder if my fellow Americans will ever get a clue.

15. 1967...Keep That Date In Mind
We also tried a sham election in 1965...under far more "noble" circumstances than today.

It's like Vietnam and Afghanistan didn't happen. The wingnuts live in this hubris world now where they are absolutely right and those who dissent are either to be stomped out or dismissed. The fact that things get worse an occupation army remains has little bearing on these assholes. That's because first, they deny responsibility (unless it's a positive) and then will revise history to blame everyone else.

Look at what a fine job we did in South Vietnam...the moment we were driven from the country, our South Vietnamese "allies" folded like a deck of cards. I hope they have very long distance hellicopters, cause that last day in Baghdad is gonna be a wild one.

Cheers

18. I don't know
I'm not sure the Sunni rebels are going to be in any shape to take back Iraq once we leave. I see an oppressive Shitte lead government ahead in the future.

19. Look At Lebanon...There's Your Model
Isn't it funny the greatest fears of Brent Scowcroft and Poppy Bush are starting to come true. Guess junior was on a bender that day to notice.

The real winners here are the Kurds. They now will have their state within a state and control the northern oil reserves. That's what they want, that's what this regime wants. They want the oil in the South...that's a stickier issue and they're sucking up to Sistani and other Shiites. It's the typical regime game of divide and conquer. The Shiites will be preoocupied fighting for power with the Sunnis or paying back for decades of Sunni dominance. Then, yes, when we bug out, the Sunnis will roar back just as they have in the past. And that serves this regime just fine since as long as the country is divided and weak, there's a power vacuum this regime and the chickenhawks think they can fill. Sadly, lots of sheeple in this country believe and support it.

25. I agree
For the most part. I do think most Americans think Iraqi elections are a scam that might work, but don't care as long as it means getting us out of there. I don't see a lot of support for long term occupation of Iraq from any sheeple I know. And I know a lot.

Like I said before we've done a pretty good job slaughtering the Sunnis, I imagine another 10 years of mass murder is going to leave them in no shape to roar back. The future is. Continued Sunni terror attacks. Leading to Shiite oppression. Leading to less and less tolerance from government. Leading to take over by strong Shiite extremist. Leading to end of elections. Leading to massive destruction of sunni population. The country as it is set up now is looking at US sponsored mass murder. Then again we sponsored Saddam's mass murder in the beginning too.

I can't see Sunnis taking back the country as long as USA backs whatever opressive regime is in power. I can't see USA out of the power loop because I can't see us bugging out any time soon. That leaves the Southern Oil fields uncovered. What are all the bases we built there for if not long term pain.

26. They'll Try To Balance An Elephant On A Pin
I agree, the Sunnis are getting the worst of it from the Bunnypants regime right now...primarily due to their previous power and continued resistance. The Shiites are more than happy to let us continue playing that role as long as they're left alone.

But, as you note, a strong pro-Islamic or Arab movement within the Shiite is very dangerous...not just to the U.S. but also the rest of the area. But they're far from strong enough yet...especially without our protection, so this regime is playing to them. If or when the tables turn and the Shiite become too strong, watch this regime side with a strong Sunni to come forward (and i'm sure we've got one warming up in the CIA/Pentagon bullpen).

You don't build 14 heavily armed fortifications if you're looking for a quick exit. Most sheeple don't even know how entrenched we are there. They think we can just hop on the Bradleys and Humvees and roll out just like we rolled in.

What's worse is this regime's vainglorious desire to find whatever ways and means to justify, in what ever conveluted way, of what a great thing they're doing. Sadly, the more they "prove" how good they're doing, the more Americans and Iraqis die.

The US will dictate power as long as this regime decides the oil and the war profiteering is worth more than the blood and public protest. Using this barometer, we've got a loooooong way to go.

He was lauding Bush too. Said what a great day it was that the Iraqi's voted against the terrorists. He said this will have a good effect for Bush and Bush deserves it! He couldn't stop smiling! I guess it's to be expected, we're gonna hear about this for awhile.

23. That's how you know that the conservatives are full of shit
They don't care about the Iraqi people. Its just a cause they embrace because its an easy position to hold, and because it makes them feel good about themselves.

The fact that they now have this new trend of blue ink shows just how shallow and uncaring these slimeballs are.
