3. I did a very quick check on David R. Obey
He seems to be pretty OK. As a basement person this was interesting:

4. Dave's The Real Deal
I've followed Congressman Obey's career for a long time. He's served for at least 20 years and is one of those 60's liberal/progressives whose always been there, but always overlooked.

I was really impressed with him during the Clinton Inquisition...he was Bonior's right arm on the House floor fights and has been a vocal critic of this regime when others (translation: Liberman) gave Whistelass carte blanche to destroy this country.

I'm kinda torn...while I'd like to see Wolfie and Von Rumsfeldt in the dock in the Hague, I kinda like to have them around for another year as more NeoCon poster children when voters ask who got us in this mess.

5. The best thing about Dave Obey
He tells it like it is. His editorials during the impeachment were fabulous.

I'm surprised they aren't talking about the letter he sent to Bush on Friday asking him to fire Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz as they have clearly failed job.

"I recommend that you allow the secretary of defense and deputy secretary of defense to return to the private sector."

6. Obey
Dave Obey is my rep. We just had a dinner for him in northern WI last week and he said many times that this president "must be replaced". He is a good man and has represented this district in congress for 34 years. I asked him when he might retire, " not till every person in this country has health care". He believes the greatest threat to the country is the expanding gap between the haves and the have nots. Just wanted to chime in. Have a great day.

7. Welcome, Badger!
I'm not in Dave's district anymore but I grew up in it and have always admired him. You're lucky. Glad to hear he isn't planning on retiring soon, although if we get the right dem elected, his wish could come true.

10. Welcome Badger1
I, too, am a long time supporter of Dave Obey. When I was an elected official, his office was always there for me.

Again welcome :toast:

13. But he also said this morning on C-SPAN that....
there is no reason to impeach Bush. Ummm....lying about a threat that leads to thousands of deaths is not a reason for impeachment? Don't understand these spineless Dems.

15. You obviously don't know Dave Obey
if you can call him spineless. Pragmatic, perhaps, but not spineless.

11. Somebody better start calling these people
on their lies.

90 Countries? Yeah, how many are supplying troops? How many are supplying financial assistance.

Jon Stewert was right: The Coalition of the Piddling!

14. Some observations
State Dept guy was rather desperatly trying to point out how important the State Dept was to the 'war on terror', i.e. it's been sidelined.

A lot of hilighting of how many countries are involved in the coalition, i.e. it's an issue that worries them.

A bit to much mention of the word 'victory' in the 'war on terrorism' for my liking. "The object of war is peace not victory": Maj-gen JFC Fuller

16. Also the other line they are pushing
is how many of the Iraqi people are joining to help the occupation, police force, new Iraqi army, intelligence etc.

17. I've had it on all morning waiting for
Robert Byrd to speak. Wolfowitz, same old, same old; "TERROR"..."9-11"..."Iraq", always making sure he mentions all three in the same sentence. It just never ends, when, god when will the insanity stop?

18. Wolfowitz: Pay to Play
He said, in essence, that the more a given country contributes, the more say they'll have in how "resources" are allocated.

21. McCain up
Chiding, but gently.

Milquetoast.

OK, now he's saying we're short on troops in Iraq.

Now he's asking Wolfowitz why we want to send foreign troops to be shot at instead of our own.

Wolfowitz sez that international troops are basically sent to less dangerous areas.

McCain quips it's his understanding that EVERYWHERE in Iraq is dangerous. End of exchange.

22. Myers on why we need to "internationalize" forces
We need an international force in place because the American presence is an agitant in Iraq.

He basically admitted they hate our guts and it would be better if other faces were there, because maybe the Iraqis would hate us less.

25. Kennedy
Kennedy: wanted to hear in speech an admission of failure. Admin doesn't know the direction in which is going. President has essentially asked for a blank check.

Am people deserve to know the answers to the following:

-
-duration of occupation estimation
-estimate of total cost: reconstruction, etc.
-schedule for utilities coming online
-schedule for when Iraqi security takes over
-how will we know we've won
-what's our pullout strategy

Need to know answers before we pony up billions...continued...
