Email I Received: "Don't Buy New Pepsi Can"
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 09:12 AM by LalahLand
My cousin sent me this email. What do you guys think?

Don't Buy New Pepsi Can

Pepsi has a new "patriotic" can coming out with
pictures of the Empire State Bldg. and the Pledge of
Allegiance on them. But, Pepsi left out two little
words on the pledge, "Under God." Pepsi said they did
not want to offend anyone. If this is true then we do
not want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate
office. If we do not buy any Pepsi product then they
will not receive any of our monies. Our money after
all does have the words "Under God" on it.

Please pass this word to everyone you know--let your
voices be heard. We want the words "Under God" to be
read by every person who buys a can.

HOW FAST CAN YOU FORWARD THIS ONE?

Thanks,

Barbara A. Spriggs
Operational Readiness Coordinator
Bureau of Customs and Border Protection
Department of Homeland Security

I think this is one of the most retarded things I've read in a long... LONG time.

37. Coca-cola violates human rights
In Colombia, hundreds of trade union activists are killed every year, inclduing several working for Coca-Cola, so recently a campaign was launched to boycott Coca-Cola:

http://www.killercoke.org

I've done so...I don't drink Coke, Minute Maid, Sprite or any Coca-Cola product...originally I would drink Pepsi and relent if I was in a fast food place and there was no alternative, but I went to a rally and met one of the Colombian trade unionists and have been cold turkey since then. So switching to Pepsi, or RC or whatnot sounds like a great idea until Coke cleans up their act in Colombia.

4. It's obviously fake.
No one would send such an e-mail from a Federal office.

This is obviously a hoax, and will most likely appear on Snopes if it hasn't already.

It's a load of horseshit.

5. This is The Old Dr Pepper Crap
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 09:18 AM by CO Liberal
As usual, another right wing lie.

From the Snopes web site (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/drpepper.htm):

Claim: A new can design for Pepsi includes the text of the Pledge of Allegiance with the words "under God" omitted.

Status: False.

Examples:

Pepsi has a new patriotic can coming out with pictures of the Empire State Bldg. and the Pledge of Allegiance on them. But Pepsi forgot two little words on the pledge, "Under God." Pepsi said they did not want to offend anyone.

If this is true then we do not want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate office. If we do not buy any Pepsi product then they will not receive any of our monies. Our money after all does have the words "Under God" on it. Please pass this word to everyone you know. Tell your Sunday School class tomorrow and tell your Pastors so that they can tell the whole congregation. Christians stand up and let your voices be heard. We want the words "under God" to be read by every person who buys a can.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To drink or not to drink?

Coca-Cola has a new patriotic can coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building and the Pledge of Allegiance on them. But Coke forgot two little words on the pledge, "Under God."

Coke said they did not want to offend anyone. If this is true then we do not want to offend anyone at the Coke corporate office. If we do not buy any Coke products then they will not receive any of our monies. Our money, after all, does have the words "Under God" on it.

If you agree with this policy, please pass this word to everyone you know. Coke doesn't have the right to rewrite the Pledge Of Allegiance!! If you do not agree, just erase or delete this message.

Origins: Although there once was some truth to the item quoted above, the information it contains is long outdated and never had anything to do with Pepsi or Coca-Cola. Neither soda company is producing, or has ever produced, redesigned cans bearing any portion of the Pledge of Allegiance or an image of the Empire State Building. This issue concerns a special patriotic can design produced by Dr Pepper back in November 2001, a can which was marketed for a limited time and has been off of store shelves since February 2002.

18. I remember the Dr. Pepper can.
The fundies and assorted freepers DID INDEED raise a ruckus over it, most likely just to be doing it. The message on the can?

One nation...indivisible.

That's it. It was around the rim of the can, like a caption on a poster. I even sent Dr. Pepper a letter of support stating I thought this so-called "controversy" was a bunch of hooey. I got a nice thank-you letter back from the company.

7. False
Here's the Snopes link:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/drpepper.htm

When I get this crap, I head straight to Snopes, find the link to the topic and hit "reply to all." Then I tell the originator that since their intelligence and credibility is on the line when they send out false information without checking it out first.

Sure, it's no way to win friends and influence people, but it keeps my inbox free from this type of B.S.

9. I used to do that, but....
I started getting angry replies back along the lines of "I don't CARE! It *SHOULD* be true!"...

So I figure, why bother? "Stupid stays stupid, pills won't help..."

"You can lead a Sheep to slaughter, but you can't make it THINK..."

40. Don't be embarrassed
The reason is there is so many of these things out there is because so many people believe them. Just bookmark www.snopes.com and when you get something in your e-mail or hear something that sounds like it doesn't make sense, visit the site.

The rumors and legends are arranged by subject or you can type in a few keywords in the search bar. There's a formula and pattern to these things and once you see it, you can spot them pretty quick.

11. This is an old one -- but I'll tell you how I responded to it
A woman at my old office forwarded this to a large list of fellow employees -- myself included. What I did was to quote sections of the history of the Pledge of Allegiance, showing that "under God" was placed in there as a kind of loyalty oath during the 1950's, and that the original writer was an ordained minister (and a socialist) who would have seriously balked at the idea of including those words.

I also put a few things in there about instead of directing our energies toward such trivial, mindless and jingoistic things; we should be instead tackling other issues of REAL importance.

I got back a pithy "Thanks for the history lesson" from the sender, along with several kudos from other who had received the unsolicited email.

12. I've been getting this stupid,
senseless piece of shit email for several months now, and I always send it back politely explaining why I was going to do the opposite, buy Pepsi, and, equally politely, telling them what they could do with their fucking email. Some people who know I'm a Christian are surprised, which pisses me off. Because I'm a Christian that means I want to force my own religion on everyone else, and demand that the state do so as well? And no, our country was NOT founded mostly by Christians and on Christian principles, I am so SICK of hearing that!

A few months back. I didn't care whether it was false or not. First off I don't drink pepsi. Second, I'm agnostic and I don't care for the pledge or any of that "under god" crap. The email was deleted with good reason; it was a waste of bandwidth.

24. Check Snopes, but you don't need to
First, our money says "In God We Trust" and not "Under God" on it.

Second, it was a Dr. Pepper can, not a Pepsi can. It said "One nation...indivisible."

Third, the can was a limited edition produced right after 9/11. It hasn't been available in quite some time.

Fourth, the phone number's inactive. I looked.
