3. It seems like everytime something intelligent is being said on CNN.....

they run out of time! Then a commericial and then 10 minutes of happy talk. There is never enough time for intellectual arguments but an endless amout of time laughing and cooing. Leon Harris probably left cause he couldn't stand happy talking anymore.

5. Don't watch CNN...

OR FOx, OR MSNBC...don't watch television at all. I get my news the old-fashioned way. I READ. (Which is better anyway, since all you get from TV is a shallow and fairly one-dimensional version of events lacking in any depth or context...)

I just had an discussion with my sister who thinks she is up on the news. Quite honestly, I don't think anyone who reads the headlines or watches TV can be-because a lot of the news is only covered by foreign sources.

11. Reality Check!

Have you tuned into your local "news" lately? This is a trend that has been around for sometime and will continue unless we push for more government standards and the roll-UP of media ownership it's gonna get worse.

The bottom line and ratings are more important than spendinig a little more $$$ to actually educate the public on policy and world affairs. But don't put all your blame on AOL/Time Warner, the average American would rather eat glass than watch a political debate, and that is why FOX is the highest rated "news" station even though it's about as much real news coverage as MTV.

I haven't watched TV "news" except sporadically (e.g. when staying in a motel) in over a decade because I refuse to let the plug-in drug into my life. I figure I'm many times better informed than the average American, if for no other reason than because I SEEK my news and current events information, on the internet and in print media, and on the BBC World Service for the most part, rather than sitting passively glazed eyed in front of a flickering TV letting some big-haired bimbo spoon feed me the tidbits deemed safe for public consumption and ratings enhancement.

after I read the original article I sat down for an hour and tracked a primetime broadcast (7PM last night actually) to see if the pattern was the same.

Read books, rent DVDs, take up a hobby or two, spend more time with your spouse and/or kids, and enjoy what little life there is anymore.

I unplugged my cable more than ten years ago and I've never missed it. I've never seen a single episode of the Osbournes, the Anna Nicole Show, the O'Reilly Factor, or a single Backstreet Boys video. Can you seriously tell me I've missed anything?

It's a good show, and I do regret not having watched it over its run. But I'm sure there will be a DVD collection coming out for it one day, and since I have small nieces and nephews, I will be fully justified in owning it, no matter how crazed it makes my wife.
