What happened to Krugman on Charlie Rose last night?
I tuned in expecting to see Krugman rip this administration on the economy and the $87b request, and there's some panel discussing Iraq...

On the brighter side, Jeffrey Sachs kept hammering the CFR fascist Max Boot. It was sweet. Seemed Boot got favorable speaking time though...oh that liberal media.

1. Bully question, TR.
I fell asleep to the panel, woke up just as Charlie Rose's theme was finishing up. I don't know if it was a rerun or a new one I slept through.

6. Are you saying that the panel was the Charlie Rose show?
Wasn't that Dinesh D'Souza (or whatever) "moderating" the panel?

4. I watched it too. Did seem like Boot got preferred treatment.
I guess cause he was the only one spouting the misadministration line. All the old hands seemed against him and Zakaria tried to keep it "fair and balanced" so it didn't seem like the discussion was a disstheBushadminfest. I did want to see Krugman, but watching the pitiful intellectual response of the neocon was minutely satisfying. It's hard to have much glee over this Bush catastrophe. Dead and broken bodies. Red ink far into the future at a time the nation is economically challeged. I guess the red ink far into the future part was what might of nixed Krugman.

5. That was a good show nonetheless

Sachs was direct and truthfull whereas Boot, whenever he had to rebut Sachs, seemd to be avoiding eye contact.

Good points to Sachs on the woefully small amount of funds given to fight AIDS in Africa compared to the 87bn dollar clusterf@ck for Iraq.

Boot came off sounding like a clumsy amature in a room full of Proffessionals.

Couldn't Mr. Rove have sent Charlie Rose a better ditto monkey than that?

7. Remember when Boot said to Sachs...in response to his remarks about
8 million dying with aids and such low US funding...He said..I guess you don't care about the Iraqi people. Sachs was pissed...and the host cut away to another person.

Maybe that will be the new mantra...complain about the cost of the war and the deaths and you will be accused of not caring about the Iraqis. Bring it on fools!

12. Just say No!
If anyone asks if you care, just say "No", or at least "Not really". Then follow it with "Why, do you think Bush* cares about them?"

8. How would Rose the sycophant handle Krugman?
They're such opposites--ass-kisser meets kiss-off artist. I can only imagine the wheedling Rose trying to decide what's most important to him... Should I suck up to him? I'm a good suck up! Oh, but what if I offend our Glorious Leader? I want to suck up to him, too, and those who like him. But Krugman is from The Times! Oh, decisions, decisions--I'll just sit here nodding like an excited puppy and hope he keeps talking until I see a safe opening to insert some flattery!

10. Probably why....
they canceled it. Rose was about to have a meltdown making all those mental calculations.

11. Krugman would be subtle and not a screaming Bush hater...
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 02:03 PM by Oracle
But if one listens closely to the great Krugman, he'll cleverly rip George a new one. Krugman's a gentleman with scruples and will kick ass cleverly with numbers and facts.

13. Krugman.....
...was spectacular on the weekend -- on for a whole hour. What impressed me the most was his clear exposition of the underlying strategy of Grover Norquist being played out in the bad economy -- the strategy of manipulating the financial crisis in order to cut social programs.

14. I like Rose...he plays to his guests and does not fight with them..
his show is not about fighting...I have seen him talk with Democrats who openly opposed the war and *...and he didn't put them down for their views..he asked in depth questions about why they think the way they do. At least there is no screaming around the table.

15. True, but with Kissinger.....
You know what you're getting with Charlie Rose. He's not going to ask the tough questions.

Still: it's very hard to watch him talk with Henry Kissinger because there are so many good questions that need asking. It's just irresponsible not to ask them, though I understand why he doesn't.

16. Your right, Grover Norquist absolutely needs to be exposed more
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 02:46 PM by Oracle
openly to mainstream America...Norquist needs anonymity to continue his hatchet work on all progressive work and programs that we've made strides on in the last sixty years...Norquist and the Bush administration count on keeping that secrecy around Norquist.

And if you read the contents (and links) in my thread (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=305884) you'll see how tightly Norquist is involved in the corporate media to make sure that secrecy is not exposed.

All these programs Norquist is destroying worked brilliantly under President Clinton for eight years...but the greedy republican hate any program to help out the less fortunate or someone who may need some help in life.
