I've made an offer to three conservatives on another board (fearbush.com, I've mentioned it here before).
All of them attempted to call Al Franken a liar, etc. and so on. I told them to read his book, find me one piece of it that is presented as fact that is actually not true and is proveable, and I will give them $20 plus the cost of the book :).
So far, not one of them is willing to take the challenge.

That's the way they play it. They blast the "liberal media" not because of factual errors, but because it shines a light on the cockroaches that infest democracy. Don't argue with cockroaches.

Sounds like standard right wing protocol to sane arguments
1. Call the person a liar. If that doesn't work, 2. Say they "hate" Bush, American, etc If that doesn't work, 3. Question their patriotism, If that doesn't work, 4. Start the name calling...
Lather, Rinse, Repeat

I find nothing you post as a challenge and I wouldn't waste my money on Al Franken's book. The complete liberal ideology is a lie, so how could a book devoted to that ideology have any truth? ____
The pathetic loser is too afraid to take the challenge.

7. After posting it separately to several and not getting any takers . . . |
|
I posted this to ALL of them :).
The Franken Challenge -
None of our conservatives have been willing to accept it.
They all call Franken a liar, but they are all too cowardly to accept the challenge.
I've offered not only to reimburse them the cost of the book but $20 for their trouble if they can provide me with proof of a lie in Franken's most recent book. If they can show me proof that anything he presents as fact is, indeed, a lie, I've offered to pay them. They are all too cowardly to do it.
This, in my eyes makes them all equally pathetic.
If you are going to call someone a liar, be prepared to provide proof (it has been proven time and time again of Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter, et al.).
Notice that of all the conservative sites out there that bitch about Franken, none have presented any proof that he lied. The best Fox could do is a frivolous suit over the words "fair and balanced" which was thrown out of court as being wholly without merit.
So, come on you CONservatives. Put up or shut up.
The first person to provide documented proveable evidence that any fact presented by Franken is, indeed, a lie, gets $20 and the cost of the book back.
Basically, it's my opinion that the conservatives who have received this challenge from me and either ignored it or hurled insults instead of accepting it are all equally pathetic, with no leg to stand on, and are in reality, nothing more than cowards.

that after Coulter's books have been so thoroughly disproven that someone on the Right would be eager to do the same with Franken's books. I guess they can't if there aren't any lies in it.

And you're right.
I can find a few internet-posted book reviews (like at Amazon) claiming that "Al Franken's book is filled with inaccuracies," but no one ever mentions just what those inaccuracies are.
One brilliant philosopher declared that, since liberal values are crap, then by definition Al's book was crap (it was left unclaer whether he'd actually touched the book or not).
Maybe someone who is better at drafting search queries than I am can come up with something disputing Al? Surely there has to be a Con out there somewhere that has at least made up something about "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."

10. I have yet to find one. |

The worst they've done is try to stop its release with the frivolous lawsuit (which actually resulted in an early release and an instant rise to No. 1).
Al was pretty careful with his sources.

Al Franken, that washed-up "comedian" that still smokes dope and is a whiney anti-Bush???
Sorry, but Franken's "book" is nothing more than a rotten leftist diatribe, who heavily supported Slick Willie back when he was presidink. Nothing there to try and prove as a "lie"...it's all leftist tripe.
LOL . . .these guys are SO pathetic.

14. Nice hearing Franken on NPR |
|
He pointed out that O'Really also lied about being a registered Independent. He actually registered as a Repub. Then O said there was no place to check off "Independent". But someone went to the county and got a copy of the actual form he filled out and there is a place to register as an I. So the lies are told and then compounded.

You cited a practial joke that was not in the book.
It doesnt matter if a practial joke counts as a lie or not because its not related to the challange at hand.
So where do you want your "moran" badge sent to?

Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 04:18 PM by Richardo
AUGUST 20, 1900 - Writer L. Frank Baum last month wrote an apology letter to The New York Times, admitting that he was not truthful when he wrote about a Kansas farm girl's adventures away from home.
This year, Baum published a book in which "Dorothy Gale" apparently travels to a far-off place which the writer described by the unlikely name of "Oz".
On its face, the book (which you can find in any bookstore) reads like an objective report, with Baum describing amazing yet realistic characters and situations: witches, wizards, dwarves, and flying monkeys are but a few of the creatures that appear in the book.
Baum's missive, written on paper, claimed that the land existed "over the rainbow" and that the characters closely resembled the farm hands Dorothy knew in Kansas. However, it turns out that these rustics were also fictional creations, as was Dorothy herself. Baum admitted that he had not actually met those people, nor had he been to "Oz" and called his book "an attempt at fiction."

From the post
"I told them to read his book, find me one piece of it that is presented as fact that is actually not true and is proveable, and I will give them $20 plus the cost of the book"
So not only do you not get 20 dollars you get marked down for failing reading comprehension.

32. Al's response as articulated on talk shows |
|
1. He did not lie to his readers/listeners (unlike people like Ann C., Bill O., etc.). There is a huge difference. 2. That his letter was a parody/spoof should have been apparent to anyone paying attention (and apparently was, from the limited response he got from the recipients). 3. Would you call Allen Funt a liar when he set up situations on Candid Camera to see what reactions he would get? Isn't Al's parody letter essentially the same thing?
