No, they see all babies as being heart-achingly, mind-numbingly innocent. If a baby has genes that predispose him/her to be homosexual, then they would just pray a lot for that baby. Their prayers would (they hope) convince the baby not to be gay.

Do you think people do that?! Does anyone sit around praying for babies not to turn gay?!? I wonder....

In any case, the answer to my question is this:

If they knew in advance their child would be born gay, they would do exactly what Carrie's (fictional) mother did when she knew her daughter would be born with psychic powers.

They would subject the child to an oppressive and joyless life of misery in a futile attempt to prevent the inevitable.

Because they fervently believe that God cares enough about what personally offends them that they can bend Him to their will and change their child-- at ANY cost.

but the christian right has really disgusted me lately. I was thinking that gay and lesbians really are getting hit the hardest by the "new Christian govt" and it's followers. I had a fundie whackjob relative tell em they believed that, because their preacher had told them so. I was like, I thought you didn't believe in abortion." She: I don't. Me: I thought you believe being gay is a choice you make as an adult. She: It is. Me: Then how the heck does THAT make sense. She said IF it was discovered you are born gay, then it would be okay to abort babies, because you would be bringing them into the world sinful and condemning them to hell. If they were "murdered" before birth, they would go straight to heaven.

9. Actually, there's a play/TV movie that deals with this issue.

It's called "Twilight of the Golds" and was aired on one of the premium cable movie channels several years ago. I know it's available on video (and possibly DVD) and recommended it as the kind of film that raises lots of ethical issues.

I was raised in a fundie church, so I have rather detailed knowledge of how these people think. 20+ years of stone cold agnosticism has not dimmed the awful awareness of this garbage - I will remember it for the rest of my life.
