Wisconsin School Halts Adopt a Sniper Fund-Raiser

A U.S. university in Wisconsin has blocked an attempt by Republican students to raise money for a group called "Adopt a Sniper" that raises money for U.S. sharp-shooters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The students were selling bracelets bearing the motto "1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide."

"Clearly the rhetoric of that organization raised some questions and we had some strong objections as a Jesuit university," Marquette University school spokeswoman Brigid O'Brien said on Thursday.

The students, representing a group called College Republicans, originally got permission to set up a table at the student union to raise money for U.S. troops in Iraq.

But they chose to promote a group called Adopt a Sniper, which says on its Web site it supports snipers deployed by the United States armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The group says it "helps real snipers get the real gear they need to help keep us safe."

The brainchild of a Texas police SWAT officer Adopt a Sniper (www.adoptasniper.org) has raised thousands of dollars in cash and gear to supplement the kit of sharp shooters in U.S. combat platoons.

Among products sold on the site is a $15 coin with the imprinted phrase "Assistance From A Distance."

What do they supply them with, refunds for their unused consciences?

7. The difference between a soldier and an f'ing butcher...
Is that REAL soldiers don't brag about killing with slogans like "One Shot, One Kill". And REAL patriots don't glorify P.O.S. "soldiers" like that, either.

As a former Army officer, I can say that the butcher's mentality is a true liability in combat or nation building, and that during the Clinton administration, there was a concerted effort to weed the nutballs out of the service. Now, the nutballs are wearing stars on their shoulders and staffing the JCS. And it's because dumbshits like these stupid fucking college Repukes are selling obscenities like those bracelets!

10. Look it up!
I am a former Army officer as well. I agree killing is not the primary mission of an army unit or the desire of soldiers. One of the biggest reasons is the problem with collateral damage and the fact that there is a comraderie with the enemy soldier.

Terrorists are a separate problem. Shooting a terrorist who would butcher another innocent person carries little or no moral penalty. However, in an urban environment, collateral damage needs to be minimized at least, and eliminated if possible.

Snipers are used to maximum advantge in Iraq. They select the target, and eliminate it without collateral damage. This type of precision takes a special kind of soldier with special training. The marine snipers do have a slogan: "one shot, one kill"
http://nationaldefense.ndia.org/issues/2003/Mar/Marine_Corps_Sets.htm
http://www.globalspecialoperations.com/sniper.html

Army snipers in the U.S and Canada use a different motto: "without warning, without remorse"
http://www.army.mil/soldiers/may2001/features/sniper.html
http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/BoltActionsSpeak.asp

MHO, anyone who beheads an innocent (or supports those who do) as part of a jhihad deserves to meet up with a sniper. Just wish I knew how I could buy one of the bracelets.

14. What's with all the RW freak-outs about beheading?
YOu guys seem obsessed with that form of death. What's up with that?

Is it so much more civilized and noble to napalm people by pimple faced pilots flying at 5,000 feet while listening to rock music on their headphones?

Is it more christian to kill people with a shock and awe bombing campaign? Is that cool, but chopping someone's head off is not?

What the fuck is the difference?

Is it because of the guillotine and French executions of past centuries? Is this just some slightly veiled France bashing?

Please clue me in.

Thanks in advance

18. Yes, but Marines, are, quite frankly, brainwashed and nuts...
I've shot at individuals, in a combat situation, by means that others might regard as "sniping". Even so, when I did it, the recipients of my rounds were clearly armed and intent on harming my comrades.

Such is NOT the situation in Iraq or Afghanistan, and if you think it is, then you need a little education.

I never took pride in killing. I take pride in the fact that I did what I did so others would never have to have my nightmares. And I have nightmares even though what I did was justified.

Think I'm gonna start spouting some fucked up slogan? That's just inhuman.

19. "without remorse" not the same thing as gloating ...
If one knows the motto, is there any need to have it written out?

Soldiers (and police) do feel remorse. While this is one way to deal with it -- turning the motto into a public slogan is actually going against the secrecy and discretion that makes snipers successful.

11. I agree. These punk college Republicans are not fit to serve with real
soldiers and they aren't fit to speak for real soldiers. Perhaps someone should ask them why they need to raise money for snipers- hasn't Rummy the Dummy seen to the needs of the troops?

Ignorant bastards.

13. You are right.
When my brother-in-law returned from Afghanistan, and he was gung-ho before he went because that is what he trained for the previous 15 years; he didn't talk about it. He quietly said he got a medal, and never even showed the letter with it to his wife, she found it. These little college punks would be crapping their pants if they had to be in a real soldier's shoes.

And we know that some of their mentality is in fact serving in Iraq, but that mentality has cost many U.S. soldiers who don't think like that--their lives.

9. Traditional American Values on parade.
Considering the number of wars this country has been involved in the 20/21st century, the number of democracies and democratic movements it has suppressed through violence, the number of people it has killed in the last 100 years, while "spreading democracy", why should we be surprised that glorifying murder is popular?

if you're a college student and support the war, then get off your ass and SUPPORT the war. The Marines didn't meet their recruiting goals this year...give 'em a hand.
