Liberal radio on it's way?
Looks like Anshell Media is looking to start it's progressive radio network round about this coming January. I did a little google to check it out and came up with these recent news articles:

http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/4237.htm

http://www.jsonline.com/enter/tvradio/aug03/165236.asp

I think this is great news. One of the reasons for the far right wing types success has been talk radio. It'll be good to get more voices out there nationally.

1. Franken was talking about it...
earlier on NPR. he didn't sound like it was a definite. but they are still working on making it a reality. I can hardly wait. Great timing for the election year.

2. Liberals are
...congenitally unable to offend anyone." I guess this guy hasn't read Franken's book.

7. Yes. You're very offensive Guy.
I, on the other hand, am a paragon (The Acme if you will) of civility.

8. for one thing it's commercial radio
pacifica is great I listen to it quite a bit but its audience is small.

The way I understand it is Anshell is going for the masses.

They're trying to get a progressive message out there to regular folks the same way that rush and hannity and the conservatives have done.

They're planning on buying up large blocks of time on commercial radio to use for progressive talk and entertainment.

Pacifica is excellent but there's lots of room out there for other stuff. I think they've been in contact also with people like the folks from ie america and Randi Rhodes.

They plan on buying time on underperforming stations in areas all around the country. Eventually they hope to buy stations themselves rather than lease time.

It's a good thing.

10. Commercially-driven.
Pacifica has their network of stations (not denigrating here - they are a fine organization), but their network is limited to a few markets. Anshell's setup will be launching in 10 cities, with syndication to the rest of the country to follow.

And they're trying to lure high-profile liberal entertainers like Franken as on-air talent.

If they make enough of a splash initially, it'll raise the profile of liberal talk radio everywhere - which will be good for the Pacificas and IEAmericas of the world as well.

5. Liberal Talk Radio!
We'll have to listen on the Internet...be willing to bet there'll be no radio station in these parts that'd carry it. Nothing but right wing blather on talk radio in Dallas.

9. Limbaugh will be in a quandary - ignore or comment?
The smart thing would be to completely ignore it - any comments will make people curious enough to change the dial.

Still, the temptation must be there to counter those "looney liberal" ideas!
