Yep. in order to distract from a major press push to expose Bush's AWOL from the Guard in a huge way. Her website was hacked and basically shut down that weekend by....?
They had all the files and research on the site for reporters to investigate ALL the AWOL facts.

Karl Rove broke that story to neutralize the AWOL story which was breaking on the same day -- the Friday before the election.

Earlier in the day, Senators Kerrey, Inouye and Cleland held a press conference to challenge Bush to explain his National Guard record.

Before the nightly news cycle, the DUI story had grabbed headlines.

I'll never believe this was serendipitous. Rove had it in his back pocket. The damage done by the DUI was nothing compared to the potential damage of the AWOL story.

The fishiest thing about the story I've found so far is not Connolly's fly fishing hat but the fact that judge Childs requested the court documents on Bush's arrest 4 months before the info. went public! Now Maine being a small state, I can assure you it did not take 4 months for Childs to get a hold of the papers. So: Why did Childs sit on it for so long?

It just seems, well some of these sources are.. how do I put it.. a little loppy. This guys actions before the DUI story, point to him NOT being a Republican stoodge, THE VILLAGE VOICE article see to be a rebuttle for the anti Gore article. Sorry, the media was sitting on AWOL and they were not going to get their fat ass off, Senators had started asking questions long before this broke. I just don't buy people let this break to distract from the AWOL story. The only thing I see wrong here is what Robert Seattle suggested the media was not doing their job. And they still are not doing their job to this very day. Given how the media has covered for Bush do you really think they jumped on this story to distract from AWOL? Bush does not have a "poker face." He is an easy read. He was clearly upset about this story, and he lost the election, though installed by the court.

Right now my hunch is that Childs was simply a loose cannon. I'd like to believe that somehow he was working for Rove, but he seems to be the original source of the instigation and did it it on his own. On that note, the only other interesting thing about Childs is that his father, Dana Childs, who died in 1999, had been both a Republican and then a Democrat in his career as a Cumberland County judge. :shrug:

wonder how creidible we have become. Want to know the story OR do you like fantasy better?? Late one night, we here in Maine on the local Fox news (no longer in existence---sister-in-law worked for them), this pathetic little zit faced reporter told about this lawyer (who is a regional character). They were all down at a courthouse about a big verdict on some murder case. Some guy got talking to this lawyer about a friend who was a friend of a chiropracter. The chiropracter told him that he had this old guy on the table who was making remarks about Bush and told him about the day he was in court years ago for drunk driving and right beside him was George Bush up on the same charge. The lawyer went to the Kennebunkport City Hall and the records were right there in plain view......no mystery, no great intrigue no nothing. Then it hit the national news. This poor dumb bimbo had no idea how important her story was but sister-in-law said the switchboard lit up like crazy as the national media swooped in. The next day the girl was anserwing national media questions and shaking in her boots----little nothing reporter at center of national spotlight. The lawyer got threatening phone calls from the DeLay-like animals. Dropped it all like a hot potatoe and is today still practicing law in Portland. He wears the cap 'cause he's bald and many a judge has gone nose to nose with him on that score. ANOTHER NO STORY bullshitted into big news. Just like the taking of the bin Laden family out of this county after 9/11 was on national news 10 times a day with pictures and all and now we have made it a CONSPIRACY THEORY!!

2. I remember the second/thirdhand stories of someone being in traffic court simultaneous to Bush back on Nov. 3 2000.
