Portland's West Side light rail line cost about $675 million in the mid 1990s. Now, allowing for inflation, let's say that a comparable line would cost $800 million today.
This means that the 87 billion could build nearly 109 light rail lines.
Alternatively, it could be used to build world-class high-speed rail connecting the major cities of each region, thereby cutting back on the need for both automobile and airplane travel for trips of under 600 miles. Think of all the oil that would save.
Oh, wait. I forgotl Saving oil is the last thing on the Busheviks' minds, such as they are.
