3. "in private briefings..."
....."we were told that the weapons programs were in full bloom, no wavering. Complete certainty about the presence of WMD. Complete.

The WH was being given classified info that there was great UNcertainty about WMD during the same time they were telling us there was complete certainty!"

4. no doubts...
...were reported from the intelligence briefings to congress or to the people. POTUS exaggerated the threats in order to get authorization for war.

Bush misled Congress. Documents available now show that the WH was WELL instructed about the uncertainty.

If it is objectionable to say that on the floor of the house, then let's BRING IT ON!

Strickland: The American people understand that the situation was unreal. WE've got thousands of troops in Iraq inadequately protected tonight.

Now we're being told that now we're there we need to just get on board. Are those providing leadership worthy of our confidence? Hvae they told the truth? Can we trust them to make decisions?

5. Markey now
"Hagel said this: the administration has done a miserable job of planning post war Iraq.

We in the House may have failed. We allowed the administration to treat us like a nuisance. We didn't ask the questions of WH. In the publicity generated by Cheney and Wolfowitz, we didn't ask the questions. Not this time! Not this time! We want the answers!

I asked Feith, just give me an idea of the costs."

Abercrombie: "Is the LA Times story today correct? Is there another $55 billion more to be requested after the elections?? Before we vote on 87 billion, we need to ask if this is the internal number they are using. We must have hearings in Armed Services authorization committee. A committee must authorize expenditure before it can be appropriated by appropriations committee."

7. Markey on Rumsfeld's attack on dissent
"Give me a break."

Strickland: "I hope the secretary never says that in my presence, because I'll have to challenge him. Grossly unfair; secretary owes Congress an apology."

Inslee: "He said terrorists are in Iraq when there were none. Now there are, thanks to his comments."

Chair: instructs members that according to the rules they cannot comment on any mendacity by the president and cannot quote senators remarks made to the media.

Hoeffel: This Iraq watch will be back next week. Need to know strategy, benchmarks and plans before appropriating the money.

Sen. Byrd was on a (slow) roll.

Very enjoyable.

I'm switching back to the New Detectives until the Repuke apologists are done.

9. I call them the Midnight Dems
Can someone explain to me what the "president" said at the end? They weren't suppose to say certain things about * or senators? (It was against the rules.)

10. Alas, I missed it! Does anyone know how long it takes before
it's posted in the Congressional Record? Also, is there an easy way to navagate the CR? I must admit that though I've read what has been gleaned occasionally from the CR by other DUers, I've never tried myself to do it. Is it hard? (I WILL try this anyway, but if anyone has tips, they'll be much appreciated!)
