contact Fitzgerald (fitzpuppet) He's supposed to be swing voter if enough people contact him.

On edit: Here's my email

Dear Senator,
As a licenced nurse in Illinois I strongly urge you not to take away overtime pay for workers. In addition to the emotionally exhausting work involved in caring for the ill, it is also physically exhausting work. Overtime pay helps prevent a further shortage of nurses in our state.

I hope those candidates are present today (unlike Gephardt on July 10 when a similar vote came before the House of "Representatives."

Still mad about that.....

Snowe
Chaffee
Campbell
Murkowski

Are all R's so far I've noticed voting with the Dems. So at least four.

Fitzgerald (R-IL) voted against, surprisingly.

And Kerry just voted..

19. The Sad Part About This Is That....
no one knows about it. I have seen, maybe, two short mentions about it the mainstream media since it came up. Fortunately it does not make a difference to me, but to those who will be affected it can be devastating. If it passes it's going to hit them right out of the blue. You know that if it does pass it will be top news. Our press is a disgrace

24. I was interviewed about this on the 10:00 news last night
Of course now I fear going back to work....not because I said anything against my employer (I did not) but because I spoke up in favor of being paid overtime.

26. I've been sharing it with nurses at work
and of course my Ohio Nursing Association. The ONA has done fair with getting the word out...but to no success with our 2 repuke Senators...

Most here were oblivious to the issue before it went to the House. I was the main mouth piece but few believed it would ever get this far.....

31. I can guarantee that I am personally responsible for thousands
knowing about this one issue. I have posted it on several of the listserves to which I subscribe. I have mentioned it to many of my co-workers and friends, many of whom forwarded the info to their e mail lists.

If we fail it will not be due to a lack of effort on my part. I will be mad though because I don't think people believed it was really happening.

The one positive thing is that there was a harsh editorial against Bush's proposal in yesterday's Post Dispatch so now more St Louisans know about it.

Union people who think it will not affect them because they are under contract are mistaken. The next time it comes to negotiating a contract overtime pay will be part of it.

It's not like there aren't some REAL issues the repubs should face that need some work.

34. Our Senate "win" was the GOP plan - they then win the conference vote
We will see if they can carry it off against union pressure - but last night the Dem win for the overtime vote today was a given in the GOP emails - but they seem certain they will prevail at conference and that the Senate will approve the Conference voted bill.

They have been wrong before (the folks emailing) and I hope they are wrong again.

36. So...
This passed by one vote in the House and failed in the Senate, and they still think they can justify inserting it in the final legislation in cmte *and* then pass it? That's gonna be a tough sell.

39. Three, one... whichever
Assuming those folks show up next time and five Senators don't change their minds b/w now and then, putting this back in the legislation would be counterproductive. Then all those folks would be on record TWICE for voting against overtime pay. Guarantee that will be used in campaign ads this cycle.

43. As difficult as it sounds and maybe to do...
I would suggest that those folks, who live in states where the pug Senator voted to support working people, send a thank you note or thank you e mail.

These senators are vulnerable to losing committee positions. Look they were courageous and stood up to the Bush juggernaut and said NO we are supporting the working men and women of America.

Bushco, Inc will do all in their power to reign in what they must view as renegade Republicans. We need to show them they are not alone.
