They'll be talking about the debate and Lieberman's attack.

Hope Dean holds his ground and doesn't say something like, "what I meant to say......"

Conyers is one of most articulate congressman there is. You may be mistaking his speech pattern for inebriation. He tends to talk slowly sometimes.

The debate appears to be if the Mid east policy should be balanced. Obviously, Pelosi and Liberman believe that our policy should support only Israel.

Basically said Lieberman was WRONG and that he is only attacking because Dean is the top-dog in the polls right now. He went on to say that you must be a fair moderator if you're going to bring peace to the Middle East. Does not believe Israel should over-throw Arafat and now I guess Pelosi and Lieberman have a paper going around for members of congress to sign - telling Dean he is wrong. :eyes:

defending himself. And, quite frankly, I agree with him on the issue. I thought Lieberman had a very snotty attitude last night. Kind of like he was too good to be vying for the same job as these other "lower tier" candidates. Almost like he thinks the nomination should be his because he ran with Gore in 2000. And while I'm at it, I bet Gore wouldn't choose him again!

31. Howard the Duck
Typical Dean: Attack, retreat, duck.

1.) IP question: retreated. Tried to soften his positon. Sounded apologetic. Attacked Pelosi for playing politics (way to go Dr, attack the Dem house leader), then claimed that others were dividing the Dem party. Ha !

2.) Claims of being the only white politician to speak in front of white audiences: avoided question, tried to switch topic, said people are just after him for his poll position. Wolf pressed on "but Governor, John Edwards (who grew up in the segregated south) has been speaking about civil rights in front of audiences of all types for years. We checked."
It should be noted that most, if not all of the other white candidates speak about civil rights in front of all audiences. John Kerry speaks about race, especially about race with regards to his Vietnam experience, in front of all audiences, and has fought for civil rights his entire career. His record and perfect NAACP rating prove it.

Ps. CentristDemocrat - Would your Conyers pic next to Dean be a shameless attempt to soften up Dean's image as the "whitey" candidate ? Kind of strange.. especially on the day when the Dean Camp is being criticized for their inablility to connect with the minority base.

If she's wrong she's wrong.

And as far as the "speaking out on race"...All I can see is good!

This is now being brought more out into the open where it should be!
It's being talked about ..Glad Dean said it!

And I'm sure as much as you would like your suspicions to be true. I believe CentristDem is from Michigan ergo the Conyers next to Dean. :-)

41. A Dem can't use that type of attack on the Dem House Leader
Pelosi is out there on the frontline defending attacks from the GOP, and she has to deal with Dean attacking her for playing politics ? That type of attack is meant to question her motives, to imply that she doesn't fight for everyone... the same type of charge the GOP would make against her. If Dean disagrees with her -- fine. But that type of attack against our House Leader only serves to undermine the party as a whole.

Then Dean has the nerve to clam that others are dividing the party ? Dean should spare us the false cries of "can't we all just get along" when it's Dean who is hell bent on destroying the party.

About the race issue: Yes, if Dean didn't talk about it, I'm sure it wouldn't be brought up. I'm sure Sharpton and the rest wouldn't say anything about it. Where would minorities be without their savior Howard Dean ? :eyes:

59. Check out what Pelosi did to Dean
from the blog:

I called Nancy Pelosi's office in California and the woman who answered the phone read me the letter. The letter was originated by someone else (probably Lieberman - LOL - I didn't ask) and just signed by Pelosi and I guess 12 others. Actually, it is rather obnoxious. It is addressed to Gov. Dean and does basically accuse him of wanting to change our position towards Israel, paints all Palestinians with the broad brush of sponsoring terrorism and denying the right of Israel to exist, and almost makes it sound like Dean is in danger of being on the side of the terrorists.

Now, that being said, Nancy Pelosi has been doing a GOOD JOB in Congress leading the Democratic Party. She even got a "Democrat with Backbone" award from Dean Nation a while back (I emailed and complimented her). So be respectful if you write or call. She may have just made a mistake. Lets not be guilty of the same tactics as the DLC - eating our own.

Call her CA office and ask them to read the letter. Maybe I'm wrong about it being obnoxious.

Dean supports peace. He doesn't support letting Israel decimate people whenever it feels like it. An Israeli life isn't worth any more than a Palestinian life.

about the ME the same as what Clinton did? Clinton repeatedly has said that the US has to be an "honest broker." He brought the two sides together in face to face meetings. He didn't try to overthrow anybody.

What is Lieberman doing? And for Pelosi to sign on to such a letter....so, they're rejecting 8 years of Clinton's policy in the ME for who's policy?? Bush's???

I don't get this at all. Am I wrong on the way I'm seeing this?

Edited on Wed Sep-10-03 07:45 PM by cprise

...especially after having the Republicans *and* the media gang up on Bill Clinton:

That job is to:

1. Keep the Republican's social extremists in-check for them.

2. Make sure the policies of the Cato Institute are sufficiently candy coated before they're ratified (but make sure they pass)

3. Prevent another Leader like Bill Clinton

68. Youre not wrong at all
Pelosi, Lieberman and all those involved with this pathetic letter are.

What amazes me is they are totally unaware of the fact that they themselves are behaving like racists and seem to actually condone the massive abuse and neglect of the Palestinians.

I dont understand their extreme behavior on this either, other than the fact that any fundamentalism will breed cruelty eventually.

That is what is happening in Israel right now. The fundamentalists have taken over there just like they have here. Sharron is a fanatic like any other.

Lieberman and Pelosi and Berman (whoever else) are acting like a bunch of crusading twelfth century Christians. Its absolutely assinine. And lacks any sense of statesmanship and logic.

I have a feeling it is the environment in D.C. that is bringing out the absolute worst in these folks.

65. joe L & pelosi want democracy in the democratic party, just not too much
it is apparent to anyone to whom god granted even a gopher's brain that the regular, insulated democratic pols are scared shitless about an insurgent dean and what it bodes for these power brokers in the party.

massive grass roots organizing by dean has the realistic potential to replace a lot democratic leaders who run the state and national parties with less well heeled, less "bought-and-paid-for" activists.

this was the threat that worried many of these same dems about al gore and his populist rhetoric and potential grass roots movement one year ago, so they undercut him in the press and the major money bags nodded "No" to him.

these same dem pols were able to stop gore and his attempt at a grass roots movement so as to retain their power, but here comes dean, doing essentially the same thing, and now the dem pols are freaking out because they thought they had this insurgency thing stopped cold.....and now, they are having to use a completely different set of rhetorical messages and narratives to stop dean.

its funny, because soon they will rue the day when they dissed gore, because "better the devil you know (gore) than the one you don't (dean)."

too cute by half have the dems in leadership acted, and now it catches up with them and will perhaps devour them.

one can only hope so.

69. That was a very knowing comment...

its funny, because soon they will rue the day when they dissed gore, because "better the devil you know (gore) than the one you don't (dean)."

But they thought they could go all the way with their plutocracy, so why tolerate even Gore?

And this time around, we're listening to the press far less.
