Rumsfeld admits infrastructure woes underestimated

<snip>"I don't believe it is our job to reconstruct that country after 30 years of centralized, Stalinist like economic controls in that country. The Iraqi people are going to have to reconstruct that country over a period of time," he said.

11. My educated guess
Eventually it will become widely known that Halliburton, Bechtel, and Halliburton (or whichever company manages to overcome both its own arrogance and the Corps' determination and win the contract to be awarded on 10/14) are really only working on the oil infrastructure and the beginnings of military bases. People will start asking why none of that $150 billion went to build schools and hospitals and stuff, and the non-answer is already there.

13. There is a sniplet of truth in that statement thought.

We absolutely have an obligation to rebuild the Iraqi's.

However, we cannot do it all alone. It has to be a joint effort between the US and the Iraqi's. It is simply impossible for us to send in construction vehicles, build of bunch of stuff and say "here"....and expect their economy and infrastructure to be stable.

The Iraqis must join in this effort and with our help build a new government, infrastructure and essentially their society.

Is that fair? Hardly. But sadly thats the reality of it.
