Texas Dems - How do I vote? RE: Prop 12
Hi all,

Can anyone in Texas tell me how to go about voting against Prop 12? How do I find out where I need to go to vote against this?

Thanks!

1. Are you registered to vote? Look on your voter's registration card for
your precinct. You do know that early voting is finished?(I think it ended yesterday.) Anyway, use that info on your precinct to do a web search or call your Dem. county Chair or call the courthouse or check the local paper to get the location for voting. If you tell me your presinct and county, I'll do it for you. We need all the anti-12 votes we can get.

I've PMed it to you.

I've never voted before except in the 2002 elections, and that was at an alternate location because of major flooding at the time.

18. I can't reply since it says you do not receive private e-mails. I need the
county where the precinct is located.

24. Everything seems to be closed for the day, but here are two numbers
that should work tomorrow after 8 AM: 713 755 6411 or 4983. Also, if you have a neighbor that you can ask, that would be a quick way to get the answer. The Chronicle will list the voting location on Sept. 13th, in case all else fails.

4. Go to your normal polling place Saturday 09-13-03
Early voting is over so it will work just like a general election.

If you have time talk to folks about it. It is a truly horrible ammendment.

6. It's a hard one
Insurance companies versus personal injury lawyers.

I don't like either one of them.

I think I've decided to vote yes just because of a personal experience I had, but there aren't any good guys in my opinion here.

8. Please vote no
I do not know your personal experience, but allowing the state legislature to decide how much a person or company would have to pay for medical or other mistakes is a bad idea.

Again, I do not know your story, but I ask you to vote no.

By the way, I am not a lawyer, so this is not personal for me.

11. It isn't just the insurance companies...
The language of Prop 12 would apply to ALL product liability suits. It is poorly written and poorly thought out.

13. I'm voting no.
"The constitutional amendment concerning civil lawsuits against doctors and health care providers, and other actions, authorizing the legislature to determine limitations on non-economic damages."

That means that caps could also be applied to all civil suits, not just medical suits. No way in hell will I vote for that.

And if that doesn't sway you, consider that that asshat Rick Perry has been on TV and travelling all over the state campaigning for this amendment. Anythiing that fascist supports is probably something Dems want to oppose.

16. My husband was killed in a car accident, totally not his fault. Even
with the help of a great attorney (who is now a Travis county judge, Dem., of course)the company was able to hide their assets and intimate that if they had to pay, they would go out of business and we would get nothing. We settled for the insurance and little else. Their business is still going strong. With a amendment like this in place, we would have zippo in place and we would have lost our family business because the main person running it was dead and we would have nothing to help get through that hard time.

14. The doctors and Insurance companies are all for it.
They both stand to make/save money by limiting awards. I wouldn't mind limiting doctor's awards because as people, they tend to not have the same cavalier attitude about their patients as hospitals. But hospitals, medical equipment companies, etc, can be awfully cold hearted in comparing costs to lives.

And another thing that bothers me is that they can assign your economic value as they perceive it, so injury to a disabled child, or older nonworking woman may not have much in the way of punitive (and therefore discouraging malpractice) payment.

25. Voting no.
If the insurance companies are for it, then I'm against it.
The doctors claim that enormous court settlements have driven up their malpractice insurance premiums. Do they really expect their premiums to be reduced if Prop 12 passes? Rather than target patients and the legal profession, they should be after the insurance companies.

23. A "No" vote here
I will be voting against Prop 12. I live in Brazoria County and we get our local news from Harris County. They have been airing a commercial about a girl who lost her legs in a car accident that is very eye opening. Has any one else seen it?
