Republican Leaders in Congress sneak D.C. Vouchers through! |
|
When Dems were out of town, the S.O.B. s made it more likely that millions of America's kids will be left behind. http://www.blackcommentator.com/55/55_cover_vouchers.html For more on Republican warfare against black Americans, see http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/racism .

1. Sad to say but the people that were missing are part of |
|
the problem. There is NO EXCUSE for not doing the job that a person is paid for in the first place.

4. The part that's inexcusable |
|
is the timing of the vote.
snip
On the evening of September 9, House GOP leadership staged a surprise vote on H.R. 2765. Forty miles away, the Congressional Black Caucus was co-sponsoring with Fox TV a Democratic presidential candidates debate. Despite furious efforts by DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and House Democratic leadership, the voucher bill passed by one vote. In addition to candidates Dennis Kucinich and Dick Gephardt, eight other Democrats failed to make it back to the House floor to cast their votes against vouchers, including Congressional Black Caucus members Elijah Cummings (MD), Harold Ford (TN), Charles Rangel (NY) and Edolphus Towns (NY).
Republicans rebuffed requests from Democratic leadership and the Black Caucus to reschedule the vote (Rep. Cummings is Caucus Chairman), and the bill goes to the Senate for the final battle, later this month.
snip
This was clearly a deliberate sabotage by the Repugs when they KNEW these members would be unavailable.

Why come you don't think going to better schools might be good for poor kids of any color? I drove through the south side of Chicago and didn't see anything but liquor stores and check cashing places. Then I got back to the burbs and everything as OK.
Let the kids go to good schools and drop the BS racist line.

3. maybe we should give them good schools to begin with? |
|
crazy idea I know...
but unless these vouchers are paying the full cost of school, not to mention handling transportation (are there any nice private schools amongst those liquor stores and check cashing places?), then it's really just a kickback to people who can already afford private schools.
If I had a kid right now a voucher would do me no damned good whatsoever. I'd rather make the public schools better, not take money away from them and give it to a handful...

...will need to be spent per pupil in order to "make the public schools better"? What's the figure up to in D.C. now? $5K a year? $6K? More? Doesn't the D.C. area already rank near the top right now? Gonna go for number 1?

6. Somebody tell me how Republicans SNEAK something through? |
|
You either do things lawfully or you dont.
So are the Democrats taking Baskin Robbin breaks when this stuff happens? This is ridiculous.
I am sick and tired of such incredibly lame excuses!

And yet, why dont the Dems come back and raise holy, unmitigated, bloody hell?
And shut down Congress.

8. OK, part of this I'm confused about.... |
|
...why did the other House Dems let the Republicans get a quorum allowing them to to do this when they knew their no votes were at a Fox event?
Maybe once you have a quorum in the morning, you have one all day???
I really don't know, but I can't believe they couldn't have stopped the vote from coming up.
But you have to admit it's sinister to have a vote like this when you know reps with constituencies severely impacted by this legislation don't have an opportunity to vote on it. That's terrible.

12. What's this compulsion of yours, SHance to attack the victims??? |
|
If you are so damned smart, then get elected to Congress, and get a majority of Congress to get elected along with you and THEN you can do a better job than the Democrats who are representing us there now, who are doing their best in a LOUSY situation with disgusting. immoral bastards running the show.
