Clark-Dean coversations. More from the front.....
OK< this is getting ridiculous but...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,97024,00.html

Trippi and Clark's top political adviser, Mark Nichols, talk frequently about the race. Officials familiar with the conversation say neither Trippi nor Dean have asked Clark or his advisers to stay out of the race.
News of the meeting, first reported by The Washington Post, raised questions about whether Dean was trying to strike an alliance with Clark early in the nomination fight, perhaps promising him a spot on the presidential ticket should Dean be nominated. Officials close to Dean said there is no such agreement in the works.

That sentiment is echoed in Clark's camp. A senior adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Clark has signaled to associates that he is poised to enter the race next week barring last-minute objections from his wife or an unexpected determination that he couldn't mount an effective campaign.

I have reason to believe that the support behind Clark is on a scale that we have not discussed on these boards. Unfortunately I don't know anything that I can confirm.
:freak:

1. Ok...yeah,the scale is that Tom Daschle and Nancy Pelosi...
would support him. That also probably means that MANY in congress would support him. That would make a big difference if he were only running against front running congressmen. Unfortunately for him, he's got to tackle a maverick that has has the lead, with NO indication of softening.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that the Clintons were supporting him also, and that would really make for an interesting race, but I'm a Clintonite and it wouldn't automatically make me a Clark supporter. Clark would still have to jump through some hoops as far as I'm concerned.

I welcome him to the campaign, as I love his positions and if he can overtake Dean then I'll fall firmly in line.

2. Indication of softening.
You must niot have seen the (I think) Boston Globe poll from the other day.

In NH without Clark:
Dean 38
Kerry 28
Undecided 12.

With Clark:
Dean 31
Kerry 22
Clark 5
Undecided 24

Dean's support is not very deep. Esspecially when you consider that nationally 68% don't know any candidates and 38% are undecided. Also, you haven't factored in potential dammage from teh Jew and Blacks comments Dean made the other day. He is getting roasted for it right now (right or wrong). Or the Pelosi business.
