David Cross: "It's Not Funny!" One shatteringly brilliant cut: pray for W
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 11:30 AM by Gabi Hayes
...in particular, which I heard on Sirius last night: the one about soldiers trying to fill out those Pray for Bush forms so they can PROVE they prayed to him ("so he can have the strength to eat his lobster salad, and cut FOURTEEN POINT FOUR BILLION dollars from the VA benefits package"....something close to that).

he pretends to be the soldier filling this out, while making bullet whizzing sounds, then gets shot while he does it. He bravely struggles to finish, then dies.

the mom gets the visit, then, with the Bad News/Good News (his order). she's told her son was killed in action (bad news). she moans, what's the GOOD news, then?

the messenger beams, "It was FRIENDLY FIRE! would you like a recliner or a TV set?"

the audience booed at one point, slightly, but gave him quite the hand at the end of the clip

does anybody have the CD, or can they bring up the clip?

I've never heard anything as devastating to the pugs and their vile hypocrisy over the war/treatment of the soldiers, which has become a real hot button here

from a linked review: "David then goes on to discuss such things as the insanity of a church organization making American soldiers in Iraq pray for Bush during the war, which is absolutely incredible.
"
http://decoymusic.com/reviewscontent.php?review=1002

another jocose snip from review:

"Another of the most memorable lines from this album comes when David is discussing Trent Lott, who had to go on BET and explain himself over his racist comments. The line that sticks out in this entire track is David’s impression of Mr. Lott: 'What! The niggers got their own television station?! What kind of futuristic science fiction year 3000 bullshit is this?! Damn you all to hell!!' "

5. he had me gasping for breath in that Scary Movie six, or whatever
the hair

and Mr. Show...what can you say about that?

his first album, Shut up, you f***** Baby, is pretty amazing in spots, too.

I have that one

just bought two Bill Hicks and two Louis Black yesterday.

Black has been absolutely hebrephemic lately on DS.

can't wait to listen to those...have heard some stunning clips from him on Sirius as well

4. remember that story about the prayers for the chimp? here
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 11:21 AM by Gabi Hayes
according to "A Christian's Duty in Time of War" -- a pamphlet given out to thousands of Marines in Iraq -- our soldiers in the war zone are supposed to fill out a form pledging to pray every day for George Bush. The pamphlet has a tear-out section which the soldier is to sign and mail to the president: "I have committed to pray for you, your family, your staff ..."

...Friday's prayer cuts to the chase: "Pray that the President and his advisers will recognize their divine appointment ..." It includes some helpfully illuminating scripture, Romans 13:1: "Every person is to be in subjugation to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God."

really good ripjob of Bush at above site, btw:

first, hahaha...idiot:
And if you "support" their rights to believe whatever they choose than you should support thier right to belive it was a divine appointment. If a President belives for what ever reason they feel they have been led down a path by thier diety to a point where they are at where they are is that wrong? Or you just don't like it?

reply to idiot:
No, I don't like it. It's megalomaniacal and dangerous. I'm all for personal belief and letting Bush pray as much as he likes in the Oval Office and at public functions. But if his beliefs start down the path of "divine appointment" or manifest destiny, then they are no longer just his personal beliefs, because they have a direct impact on my life and the way I live it here in America.

6. more:
US soldiers in Iraq asked to pray for Bush

From the article:

Thousands of marines have been given a pamphlet called “A Christian’s Duty,” a mini prayer book which includes a tear-out section to be mailed to the White House pledging the soldier who sends it in has been praying for Bush.

“I have committed to pray for you, your family, your staff and our troops during this time of uncertainty and tumult. May God’s peace be your guide,” says the pledge, according to a journalist embedded with coalition forces.

Also:

Sunday’s is “Pray that the President and his advisers will seek God and his wisdom daily and not rely on their own understanding”.

Monday’s reads “Pray that the President and his advisers will be strong and courageous to do what is right regardless of critics”.

The people who made this pamphlet are In Touch Ministries. http://www.intouch.org/
They’re a southern baptist church with tv/radio programs that reach “every major market” in the U.S. They also have a “presence” in every nation on earth.

7. Ho....Cross has a nice response to "In Touch Ministries," WRT
their infelicitous choice of names, given certain functionaries' predilection for young boys' naughty bits.

that's not how he phrases it

he suggests they change their name to "Sunny Side Up"

15. deep in the heart of texas
Like other comedians, Cross joked about how his breeder friends constantly harp about how hard parenting is. Unlike other comedians, his clincher was, "If you really want hard, try talking your girlfriend into her third consecutive abortion!"

You can imagine the gasps from an unknowing audience that thought it was getting Yakov Smirnoff. Cross went on to advocate lowering the age of consent to 15. "These girls are out there fucking some 15-year-old kid who pops after 20 seconds, but I'm a grown man and I've got skills!"
