Poll question: What state is the American capital of Fascism |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 09:15 AM by sasquatch
Sorry southern DUers not to pick on you but, for every bad thing that happens in the US it seems to have roots that come from the south. I know I don't need to leave Ohio to see fascism in Cinncinati our Police officers think it is funny everytime they shoot a unarmed black man. A lot of them though have families that come from the south though. So I've always called the south the main exprter of Facism. Last night in a GD thread I said "This is borderline DLC southern Democrat racism" and I didn't get flamed so I think DUers are in support of that statement.

Wyoming is the single most fascist state in the nation. I lived there for over twenty years and know this first hand. If you don't believe me, look a the percentage of voters that went for the #1 fascist ticket in 2000 and the percentage of voters who voted for the freedom loving Democratic candidate.

Satan himself!
Dick (Head) Cheney was the lone representative from Wyoming for many years.
In fact, Dick (Head) Cheney nominated me for the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy when I went to High School in Cheyenne.
I submit the fact that Dick (Head) Cheney is the real power behind the illegal fascist regime occupying the White House today and he was given to us by Wyoming.

They only list one in/around Fresno -- we have 2 chapters of the KKK -- one in Clovis (been there for YEARS) and the other in Oakhurst/Coarsegold area (just south of Yosemite). There are a couple in Merced and Madera as well.
Your point is well taken -- these knuckle-dragging droolers are EVERYWHERE. As one who has seen white-robed KKKers in the flesh (or in the sheets, as it were), I can assure you the south has no such monopoly.

I still say exporting Dick (Head) Cheney was the biggest ecxport of fascism by any state at any time in history.
If we go with hate groups, Indiana would ahve to be the winner because it exported the Klan throughout the entire nation during the 20's.

In the South there still is that "Can I pick a bale of cotton for you master for real cheap and I'll never start or allow a union to start up here" mentality. I KNOW slavery was abolished a long time ago but, they always wabt to gradualy move back to it.

Likewise have a tradition of large scale irrigation projects, supporting large scale plantation-like agriculture, along with bitterly anti-labor mining interests (see the history of unions in mining and agriculture).
This has given them very right wing anti-democratic politics.
An independent middle class forms the basis of political democracy. A plantation economy forms the basis of fascism.

Slavery existed in the North, too, punchy. And it died almost 150 years ago. I do not deny that there are poor quality people in the South, just as there are in every geographic region. But to make a blanket generalization that the South is the chief repository of wickedness in this country is ignorant and hateful.
As for the middle class in the South, you don't know what you're talking about. The South is arguably the fastest growing region in the country, and there's a robust middle class.
Peddle your hate elsewhere.

No middle class in the South? Sorry, that's just completely untrue. I've lived in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, California, Illinois, Virginia, and traveled to many more, and have never seen a state that didn't have a middle class. They all have wealth and poverty, too, and good people and bigots.

Fascism is rule by a government controlled by corporate interests. In that vein, one would have to point to New York, financial capital of the U.S., or Delaware, which has nice usury and tax laws that get businesses to headquarter there.
But, that wouldn't fit into your "SOUTH IS EVIL" routine, would it?

Fascism does not have to be rule with corporate interests at all. Fascism has no particular economic ideology. Nazi Germany actually was a mix of socialism/capitalism (all buisness interests not in line with the state were nationalized. The state pretty much controlled the capitalist interests that were not nationalized)in the 1930s, but during the war they began using massive slave labor and the whole country went on a total war economy.
Corporatism in fascist Italy is not corporatism in the sense of capitalist buisness trusts. Corporatism in Italy was a form of lobby in the government formed of 'corporations' that represented different interests and groups in italy.
Fascism is essentially a revolutionary movement, designed to combat bourgeois democracy and communism. It blends intense nationalism, often pan-racial ideology, contempt for class barriers, expansionism, and a military structured society. Fascism also usually has an absolute dictator that represents the state.
Fascism is also revolutionary movement.

38. How totally offensive... |
|
Fascist ideas in the U.S. are geographically based?
Wow...Matt Hale is from Peoria, Illinois, but we're a solidly Democratic state at this point.
We're not actively exporting anything as a state in terms of ideas. Our senator Dick Durbin is a leader among progressives in the Senate, but my Representative Jerry Weller does seem to have some borderline fascist tendencies...but I think it's a strain to say my congressional district is exporting fascism...
Every bad thing...????
Is Arnold Schwarzenegger from the South?
Is Matt Hale (the World Church of the Creator) from the South?
This is a stupid exercise to even start listing...what a stupid post.

40. great example of polling bias |
|
one problem with 'polls' - and why the results we read sometimes seem inconsistent with what we 'see and hear' - is that the questions asked (wording) and the questions selected (what is asked vs what is not ask) picks up bias - even if it is unintentional - due to the underlying assumptions made by the person constructing the poll questions.
In this case we have exclusively southern states, at the exclusion of some other regions/states that could also lay claim to such 'charges'.
