Bush is afraid to go to NYC
This is a transcript of a CNN report from yesterday, interestingly, just minutes before the new/old Osama footage broke yesterday:

HINOJOSA: Vice President Cheney was to have taken part in a moment of silence, observing the time the first plane struck the north tower at 8:46 a.m.

Now CNN has been told that the vice president understands and accepts the mayor's recommendation, but all of this comes after a scathing front page "Daily News" story that had the president skipping the event altogether and sending the vice president instead. Many family members felt that was a slap in the face. Others told the mayor's office they didn't want any politicians at a memorial they felt should have no political dimension at all.

One family member of a September 11 victim told "The Daily News" that the president may not want to come to New York because of sagging poll numbers and for fear he might have been booed at the site. And at this point, it looks like neither President Bush or his vice president will be in New York at the official commemoration ceremony to mark this day of horror in New York -- Heidi.

COLLINS: Maria, has there been a response from the White House about those allegations, saying that President Bush wouldn't be coming to the celebration because of the poll numbers.

HINOJOSA: No, at this point, we have just heard from the vice president's office, saying that they understand what the mayor has asked for. But at this point, no response officially that we have heard regarding those allegations -- Heidi.

It's right that he not be allowed to politicize the ceremony, but you KNOW he would if he thought he could get away from it- Karl would insist on it.

1. So much for the "dry run" for next year's "Exploitation at the Coronation"
If they think Dub and Cheney would be booed this year, wait until they see what the reaction will be like NEXT time around! :eyes:

B-)

5. Secret Fly-In Fundraiser
I think they're having their second annual Corporate Jet Secret Location Fly-In to an undisclosed location somewhere in the midwest.

3. Can't imagine what his real poll numbers are
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 10:14 AM by DoYouEverWonder
but regardless of what they may be, W can't go anywhere among regular American citizens anymore. He would be booed and worse. The only places he can go are where they can tightly control the audience response.

Besides, we know what W and Cheney always do whenever things get in trouble, they go AWOL.

4. AWOL like a couple of chickens(hawks)
Not to mention that they probably had a tee time to make-

They yell "fore" as our men and women in Iraq yell "Help".

Sickening.

7. Exactly
Rumsfeld's been to two events that I'm aware of. The fact that Bush and Cheney are AWOL proves they're aware of how the American people actually feel. And the fact that the members of this forum aren't all over Rumsfeld's crappy patriotism speech is a testament to their power to manipulate the people.

Oh, wait a minute - here's Bush on MSNBC. Okay, so he went to a prayer service and pretended to be religious. He doesn't need to say much today because the "liberal" media is doing his bidding, mixing yesterday's news (the tape and the possibility of another attack) with today's events. Ugh, ugh, ugh. And here we sit, not speaking out against the use of a tragedy to build an empire because it happens to be the official remembrance of something most of us think about every day.

The way to honor the victims of 9/11 is to get rid of the assholes who profit from their deaths.
