My idea for a Democratic Ad to Save Social Security |
|
The scene is a McMansion neighborhood in the future, the trees are fully grown and there are a great number of cars parked in the driveways of these homes...
Focus in on one home as a young couple is moving into one of these homes...
Cut to a scene inside the home and watch and listen in as a much older gentlemen says to his son...."Son, I am glad that you are helping us out like this. Who would have thought that putting all our eggs in the Stock Market would have been such a bad idea. With the mortgage on this place in effect until we hit 70, we didn't know how we could have kept it all unless the two of you moved in to help out..." .."by the way, when you get settled in I have a few bills we need to talk about"....
This is the scene I keep imagining, baby boomers and people in my generation (30's) debt laden with mortgages they have refinanced multiple times and little or no money in savings.

It reminds me of a cartoon in the latest edition of Business Week. Titled "The Innocence of Youth", it's got two 20-somethings standing there with t-shirts that say "I'm with Stupid" -- The blurb above one says "Thinks that SS will be there for him in 50 years", the blurb above the other says "Thinks that stock market returns will be there for her in 50 years."
Apparently, even Business Week realizes Bush's plan is a crock.
