Senator Lugar responds, LAMELY, to my Gonzalez vote complaint |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 09:35 PM by kcwayne
My Letter:
Senator Lugar,
I generally find your positions on most issues that come before the senate to be reasonable and well considered. I have always thought that within the limitations of political realities, you hold to principals and maintain high levels of integrity.
I am dumbfounded at your confirmation vote for the Attorney General. I won’t presume to lecture you on the morality of abandoning the Geneva Convention for political expediency. For all of the good work you have done, this act causes me to lose respect for so much past work. I am deeply disappointed that you would bend to these crass politics, because I do not believe for one second that you think it is wise for our government to support torture. The blood of American soldiers that are brutally tortured is on the hands of those representatives that would vote to confirm this obviously inferior candidate.
It is a sad day in America. If justice were to prevail, which it never does, the future victims of this unconscionable decision would be those that support this decision, or those that made it. You are standing on the wrong side on this dark day.
And his pathetic response:
Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to the nomination of Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General. The Senate confirmed his nomination on February 3, 2005, by a vote of 60 to 36.
I take very seriously the Senate’s advise and consent role in the nomination process. By having full debates on nominations, important public records are established that articulate wide ranges of opinions. With cabinet members this becomes part of an ongoing working relationship, and Mr. Gonzales, as well as the President’s other cabinet members, have made it clear they welcome the opportunity to come before Congressional committees to review and answer questions about their department’s programs and activities. This will be important as Congress and the Administration work together to win the war on terrorism and to address our domestic challenges.
Thank you, again, for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Lugar United States Senator
RGL/aba
So did he say anything other than "I am a spineless worm with no morality or integrity, and here are some pointless things to say that make me seem like I am on top of the situation."?
What a douchebag.

1. There are no heroes left. Except Boxer. |

I like and respect Lugar a lot too, but something is happening. Virtually no one is standing up to Bush. And certainly no Republicans. If it weren't for Boxer - I think all his confirmations would have been unanimous. (By that I mean people saw Boxer stand up to Bush and they saw how well it went over with Democrats and a FEW followed suit. If she weren't in the senate - I'm not sure any of them would have voted "Nay' on anything.)
