As a Red Sox fan, i was deeply disturbed to see... |
|
Schilling and Varitek yucking it up with W chucklehead @ the WH yesterday in some bullshit "give the dipshit president a Red Sox jersey w/his name on it" ceremony. The funny thing is, Boston ownership and management were opposed to *, but born-again Curt Schilling just loves the dingbat. It's going to be hard to root for him anymore.

I'm also bummed about Schilling. As a Phillies fan, I loved him when he pitched for us.

I agree totally with your comments. The 1993 team was one of my favorites....been a fan since (gulp) 1964. But I cannot look at Schilling the same way as I used to.

Sometimes it's better to not know where your favorite players are politically. That way you're not disappointed if they're Repukes.

I wouldn't think so, since he (Varitek) is a college graduate. I know Curt has one semester of Junior college under his belt as well as being a born again. Not to bash non-college people, but studies have shown that people with little or no higher education are more likely to vote repub.

that politics has invaded my sports interest. Once I heard Shilling was a major * supporter, I can't get past that fact when I see or hear of him in the news. * has wreaked so much havoc it stuns me when I hear of people supporting him and his policies......

10. Another thread in the SPORTS forum says..... |
|
"Pedro Martinez and Doug Mientkiewicz REFUSE To See Bush At White House. They were offered the opportunity to go visit Bush at the White House for the World Series meeting and refused. Good for them. They 'officially' said it was because they wanted to keep practicing with the Mets, but we all know they did it because Bush sucks. I'm liking this team a lot already. April can't get here fast enough."

This I can't be friends with republicans, watch this movie(even though I like it) because this gop supporting actor is in it, can't root for a guy I thought incredible until I found he liked Bush mentality is some kind of social pathology that only becomes more evident on partisan boards like these with everyone is trying to outdo each other burnishing their credentials as a true member of the group.
I hate Curt Schilling because he pulled a damn Willis Reed on my team helping cause the biggest choke job in history.
Whether he likes Bush is pretty much an after thought.

|
for some. Or in other cases, abject poverty. So it's not fair to suggest some people take politics too seriously, when one weighs the consequences of electing one person (Bush) over another (Kerry).
And as a Democrat-to-my-bone-marrow and a Red Sox fan I am puking over this.

The brand of patriotism that is fashionable very much resembles sports fandom. Root for our guys, no matter what, or there's something wrong with you. I've been a fairly high-level athlete, and the climate does not exactly foster free-thinking.

My brother-in-law is a golf nut, and subscribes to a bunch of golfing magazines. Shortly before the election, he was utterly *disgusted* to read that almost all pro golfers supported *. I forget which magazine it was, but they interviewed most of the top male golfers and they all gushed over Bush. I think it's taken a bit of enjoyment out of watching the PGA for him (I, on the other hand, despise watching golf, so I'm lucky).

I hate to keep being a dick, but what is wrong with some people? Do you really think a sport in which 99 percent of the stars are white and 95 percent of them learned the game at a country club is filled with Republicans?
Gee. Phil Mickelson is an insanely rich white Stanford grad whose dad built a chipping green in the backyard. Do you think he may fit the profile of a Republican?

For some reason, I often think of Tom Watson and Mickelson at the same time. I can't explain it. Maybe because Watson: Nicklaus as Phil: Tiger.

A few years ago during, I think, the US Open they ran a feature on Mickelson's childhood backyard and credited it for the "creativity" of his short game (which is pretty remarkable).

Which hints to me that they don't particularly like *. FWIW, Bronson made $332,500 last year (he got a bit of a raise this year), so he doesn't have as much of a monetary reason to support him.
Of course, Manny made $20.4 million in 04, which confuses things.
