2. NPR Morning Edition just had a nice tribute to him.
Ended with the last lines of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken".

3. His latest CD is incredible
But lsitneing to it, you knew he had accepted the inevitable. You could also tell, the man was at a complete loss after losing June.

4. RIP MIB
You knew he wasn't going to last long without June. What a tragic loss. I'm so happy he spent his last few years getting down as many songs as he could. I grew up listening to Johnny Cash every day, and still do. American music will never be the same.

7. Man is my wife gonna be bummed
Edited on Fri Sep-12-03 09:23 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
I can't reach her now or I'd tell her. She really loves and appreciates his music and got me to too.
The man was a freaking giant of his own unique making. Quite an artist. :-(

edit- Just got off the phone with my wife. Yup. She's bummed. But I scored major points for being the one to break the sad news.

16. The good thing about heroes...
is that they NEVER DIE.

As long as we remember them.

13. Part of my childhood memories -
My dad was the restless type, and when we were in the states, we were moving every year, driving a van full of kids and furniture hither and yon. He made us listen to country music the whole way, and it gave me a wierd love/hate relationship with the song "Jackson" by Carter and Cash. I know all the words and it's one of those that will play incessantly in my skull (like now).

Of the song "Ring of Fire" I have no such ambivalence, it's up there on my favorites list. I know all the words to that one too!

14. Matthew Twenty-Four
http://www.toptown.com/hp/66/twentyfour.htm

I heard on the radio there's rumors of war
People getting ready for battle
And there may be just one more
I heard about an earthquake
And the toll it took away
These are the signs of the times we're in today.

CHORUS
Matthew twenty-four is knocking at the door,
And there can't be too much more to come to pass.
Matthew twenty-four is knocking at the door,
And a day or one more could be the last.

A great bear from the northland has risen from his sleep,
And the Army ranks in red are near two hundred million deep.
The young and old now prophesy a coming
Prince of Peace
And last night I dreamed of lightning in the east.
