Ghouls
I just finished Paul Krugman's article on how the regime has exploited the events of 9/11/01 for their own ends, few of which have anything to do with making our country more secure. It occured to me that these people, like ghouls, are feeding on the dead, both from that event and from the mounting casualties in Iraq (American and Iraqi both) in order to sustain themselves in power. As Mr. Krugman points out, it is now driven more by fear than choice: certainly the greatest nightmare for the regime is a Democratic attorney general and/or a Democratic or non-Republican-majority senate with subpoena powers. The next year may prove to be one of the most decisive in history.

1. Krugman rocks!
I wish we could get a planning meeting of some of the great thinkers such as him to figure out how to educate the public about Bush. It is a huge job, considering the present state of the media. Can't some wealthy left-wingers start buying media outlets? Of course, we still have a long, long way to go in educating the public (average reading ability = 8th grade).

2. Education only works if you can shift attitudes first
which Mr. Rove knows all too well. It's like getting people to stop smoking, or not even start. You can wave all of the facts you want in their faces but until their attitudes about it change they'll continue to find rewards in it. The reward the American people seem to be thinking that they're getting from this is security; I think that enables them to ignore the facts. Hey, almost 70% of them think that Saddam was behind 9/11/01, despite there not being a shred of evidence that he was, beyond the regimes' say-so.
What's needed is someone who can articulate these issues to the average person, as you said.
