Wounded billed for hospital food

By BILL ADAIR, Times Staff Writer

© St. Petersburg Times: September 11, 2003

WASHINGTON - After a grenade exploded inside his Humvee in Iraq, Marine Staff Sgt. Bill Murwin was treated at a military hospital in Germany and spent four weeks at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Part of his left foot was amputated.

His medical care was free, but the government billed him $243 for the food.

Then, just three days after he received his first bill for the hospital food in Germany, he got a stern letter saying the bill was overdue. It warned that his account would be referred to a collection agency.

1. Maybe all of those flag-waving,
fascist brownshirts that demand conformity or they brand you "un-American" and "unpatriotic", and that love to scream about "supporting the troops", but who balk at actually doing anything at all for them, and indeed, call them "subversive" and say they should be punished for insubordination when they speak out, should send him the money to pay the bill!

2. "Just Make The Check Out To KBR Government Operations..."
The food was kinda bland, and they used way too much oil.

4. That food bill
I bet the marine was on seperate rations, in other words he was paid not to eat military chow. Most non-comissioned officers, sgts, and petty officers that don't live in the barracks are given an allowance to eat where ever they choose.

5. Right on the nose
Any one on "seperate rations" are required to pay for food when they are hospitilized. As you said in your reply, the vast majority of enlisted members above the pay grade of E3 are on separate rations.
