Question about media coverage of war |
|
Although I am not sure of the statistics, I know that a large portion of the American troops in Iraq are African American.
But I'll be darned if I ever see them on the tv news. Rarely they will show a woman soldier, but far more rarer is a black soldier. One would expect women to appear less because they do not have roles as active combatants -- but surely there are black soldiers involved in the action, so they should be turning up more often -- right?
Questions: does anyone know what the demographic breakdown of the military is, especially those serving in Iraq?
How come what I see in most of the tv coverage are white guys, when there are so many black men serving there now too? Surely they are over there in active combat, and have opinions about what is going on there.... I just wonder why I never see them.

4. The media hates the war? |
|
You mean the same media with huge swooshing "ATTACK ON IRAQ" graphics and fluttering American flags pasted permanently on the screen?
The same media that one day switched over simultaneously and all started reporting the death toll in Iraq as the KIA list, rather than the total dead? Or the same media that now likes to call them "Coalition dead" instead of American dead?

2. Don't forget the large number of Hispanic military |
|
We aren't seeing much of them either. Ricardo "the mouthpiece" Sanchez doesn't count. He has given himself totally to the dark side.

5. Here's another question.....Just as important |
|
How many wounded have been treated in America and military hospitals in foreign countries?
What is the real victim count?
There are serious questions about the media covering this invasion. Nothing about the dead and even less about the thousands upon thousands of wounded.

12. That would explain the senate committee hearing where |
|
I think it was wolfowitz cited approx. 114,000 US troops in Iraq now vs the reported 120,000 revealed earlier. Also of interest, everyone is saying initially 79 bil given for this criminal war but Sen. Byrd reported 104 bil during his questioning and wasn't corrected by wolfowitz or anyone else.

|
I was under the impression that a disproportionate amount of latino-americans were serving in Iraq.

9. Sorry to not get back to you sooner but I haven't been on-line much the |
|
past few days. OK the stats would evidence a disproportionate amount of fatalies among the latino-americans within the marine corp according to the article. However, I'd like to see the stats for amount of latino-americans enlisted within the army & navy. If I find the stats I'll send it to you. Also, there's a movie on world link tv called The War Spin, if you get world link tv, it's well worth the view, sheds incredible light on cencom briefings.

10. you tend to see more front line soldiers on TV |
|
and blacks tend to occupy support roles, thereby the difference.
May not have the glory factor when you're picking and choosing military careers but you have a better survival rate and better skills for a post-military career. If you are enlisting to learn a career as college is out, are you going to pick sniper or mechanic ?
So you can leave off the racism claims.

They showed plenty in an attempt to show how "free" we are.
More important questions would be why we were never shown the effects of the bombings and the dead Americans and the hostages when the rest of the world got to see those images. All we saw was a bunch of night-vision photos of lightbug-looking anti-aircraft fire and little explosions.
