George Bush, The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Besides (or because of) the ring to it, I think this argument has some traction:

Sure, Bush might cry wolf again and get us into another war of reaction against a nonexistant threat, but the reverse scenario would be a real threat to national security. If an unstable nation appears to be a rapidly developing threat to the United States and our allies, would George Bush be able to rally the nation or the world? Or, even with reasonable evidence and a clear threat, something similar to Cuba in 1962, would the nation, and the world, look at the evidence and the American position, and say, "Isn't that The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Didn't he come to the U.N. before, with his 'incontrovertable evidence', his intelligence sources, and his stories and photographs? We can't believe him any more. We know he'll lie to us, and we know that the truths are so full of small print and disclaimers that we can't honestly believe there's something out in the woods."

Sometimes there is something out in the woods. And when there is, we need a president who doesn't cry wolf whenever he wants his way.

1. You know, it fits
And this scares me a little bit.

Because now I don't belive any of the "terror warnings" or alerts they release. Maybe some day one might be true. But no one will believe his lying ass.

3. You won't find people here who think Bush is "gifted"
but we agree with you that his presidency is suddenly veering south.

11. George Bush is not what I would call "gifted,"
But he is the recipient of many "gifts," including family influence, money, education opportunites, etc., that a better-qualified person might have been able to put to better use.
He has also been given a big "bye" for his many failings by the press and the public at large, especially because of 9/11/01.
These might be considered "gifts" of fate.
Is this what might be meant here?

17. can you believe these f***ing trolls, zidzi?
I live in Texas; I am surrounded by these g.d. morons. I hear them on the radio, read them in the newspaper, see them on TV. I come to my life-saving oasis in a sea of darkness, the DU, only to find cinshitty or whatever her name is waxing poetic about our dipshit "president". GAWD.

19. What gifts would those be? The gift of stupidity, the gift of manipulation
the gift of inheriting millions and using those millions to bankrupt several companies and putting thousands out on the streets, the gift of being able to steal elections, the gift of skewing Christ's teachings so hard that RWers who have never met a philosophy of Christ's that they could actually agree with think you are the second coming, the gift of finding all the left-over, oil loving, greedy men from your father's failed adminstration to help you run your country further and further into economic disaster and worldwide disdain. I could go on, and on and on and on but I have some other work to do. Welcome to you. Most here do not see those gifts you are talking about but maybe you can explain them to me.

21. We should NEVER believe any world leader wishing for war---
Without seeing evidence! Even Kennedy had the good sense to show (otherwise classified) recon photos to the world to bolster his case. Bush & Powell & Rumsfield gave us nothing supporting their case.

Hell, even Hitler had knew he had to put his ringers in Polish uniforms to make his case for invasion--these guys couldn't even figure how to plant evidence, however flimsy.

For that matter, I'm still skeptical of our reasons for invading Afghanistan--I've never seen what I consider to be compelling evidence that OBL was behind 9-11.

Bottom line here--don't allow any nation to violate another's soveriegnity without internation consensus that it is necessary....
