You do realize this Terry Schiavo thing is a distraction tactic, don't you |
|
It is an important issue, but there are a lot of other important issues that are being ignored: dying Iraqis, the anniversary of the beginning of the war, the separation of powers and checks and balances that are supposed to keep the legislature and judicial branches from interfering with one another.
Soon we're going to have a shitload of judges that will foist the right-wing agenda on us, anyway...damn. Up is down, black is white, watch this nearly brain-dead woman's struggle to live while we take away all your civil rights and decimate Iraq.
I'm just overwhelmed with sadness and a sense of powerlessness.

which is so frustrating
How did all the stupidest people get control of our government?
Irrational fear turning into rampant nationalism
It serves the monied interests, and they back the puppets that wage their wars.
Our 'democracy' model is not one to be proud of, in fact I believe Americans have demonstrated the exact way a democracy should not operate

14. When we lose the rule of law |
|
there is really no going back. And that is really what is being attempted here. It goes along with the contempt that the right has shown for the role of the judiciary and the majoritarian ideas of nuts like Bork and Scalia (rights are whatever the majority says they are). This is a case that has gone through the courts for 10 years. Through appeals and reviews and every possible legal challenge. To say that the parents haven't gotten their day in court couldn't be further from the truth. But yet Tom Delay would cast aside the court ruling with relish and contempt because he sees a political opportunity. Of course he is the first to complain about "years of appeals" for death row inmates. Imagine that.

|
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 06:24 PM by omega minimo
Sad yes. Heartbreaking to have every American childhood fairy tale dismembered.
Outrageous that this week's Congressional investigation panel was on what? STEROIDS! What priorities?
NOT: 1. Bogus president. 2. Bogus election #2 3. Bogus war (X 2 years)
So many threads today start with general statements about what's WRONG with the country's situation today-- and then veer off into Schiavoland. Reminds me of Brady Bunch: "Marcia, Marcia Marcia! It's always about Marcia!"
We are not braindead and we are not powerless.
Question is: Why are so many Americans willing to be ruled by lies and liars? Even when they know they're lying? Even when they know how dangerous it is?
And why do the Repugs get away with sick and dangerous levels of lying, after impeaching a president because "he lied"?

20. It may be a distraction but it will backfire |

This is giving the otherwise complacent public a clear picture of where the Christo-Fascist movement is taking us, and they don't like it! It's time to tie this around the necks of Delay, Frist, the Bushes, Dobson and his fellow travelers, and their ilk. Their shameless attempts to politicize this can be their undoing. They have taken the rope and are sticking their heads in the noose. Many people have either had to face this type of agonizing decision or know personally about someone else who has. Families of people without living wills have to confront this all the time. Sometimes it splits families. But the overwhelming response of outsiders is almost always in support of the decision to withdraw life support. Write your Congressmen, Senators, state legislators, newspapers and other media. By the way the MSM is not immune from from criticism in this matter. They need to be held accountable in the court of public opinion. Anyone who seeks to profit economically or politically from such a situation is despicable scum. We don't often get a high hanging curve ball like this. Show your outrage and talk it up! Appeal to common sense and common decency. This is a wedge that can leave even their fundie base divided.

and we also know the depths of scoundrelism, pandering, cowardice that are involved in this sad situation. But aside from the important principle of medical self-determination involved, there are now some even larger points involved----things like a ROGUE GOVERNMENT, ram-rodding of arbitrary "laws", and the esclating loss of our freedoms to tyrants.

a light shining onto the hypocritical "religious" right.
Most people express no desire to be abused the way the system is abusing Terri Schiavo's dead body and as the abuse continues the majority will perhaps see the light.

Terry Schiavo and the Big Distraction...Let them flog poor Ms. Schiavo, for whom my heart honestly bleeds. No one deserves to be a pawn in this kind of despicable game. But if you get geared up for that fight and let the ship sail on the filibuster issue, a lot of very bad things will happen in rapid succession.
They are yelling, "Hey, look over here! Look here! Get outraged here! Get mobilized here! Nyah nyah nyah! Here!" for a reason.
Don't take the bait. http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/3/19/11243/4079
