Debunking the Miniter book
I'm trying to find some threads or links to take on the latest right-wing spew -- this Richard Miniter book that tries to claim our good friends in the Middle East did everything up to and including sending Bin Laden to President Clinton via FedEx -- only to have Clinton refuse delivery. (Of course, the book conveniently ignores how * gave OBL's family free passage back to Saudi Arabia on the night of 9/11, but whaddya expect?)

Google searches come up with the same fascist usual suspects seizing on this to show that *'s failures are all Clinton's fault, but not much in response. Where's the rebuttal? Links?

1. How many times did Clinton bomb al Qiada?
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 08:05 AM by baldguy
3? 4 times? He sent cruise missiles into Afghanistan a few times and to Sudan at least once. I'm not sure exactly.

Remember, at the time the 'pukes were saying "wag the dog" at every military move he made.

2. This is assuming that Clinton was psychic...
and could have foretold that there would be a 9/11 (which Conid Rice already admitted "nobody could have predicted."

No one ever offered to send bin Laden to the US. The offere was to send him to another Muslim country.

The premise of this screed is something about "unleashing global terror." There was no global terror before 9/11? Ridiculous! GHW Bush, by the logic of the right, was responsible for the first bombing of the WTC. Clinton was able to capture and prosecute and jail the terrorists responsbile. George W(orstever) Bush hasn't been able to capture bin Laden or Saddam Hussein or the WMDs. He even invaded a country that had nothing to do with Al Qaeda and called it a victory against terrorism. What an incredible screwup this guy is.

3. Sudan offered to release bin Laden to Saudi Arabia...
but the Saudis would not take him, fearing reprisals from militants opposed to the Saudi leadership. bin Laden couldn't be brought to the US at that time for legal action, because there wasn't evidence to indict him. The right-wingers seem to forget that the US follows a concept called due process, or at least we USED TO follow due process before the current * regime.

4. "The Clinton Wars"
by Sidney Blumenthal is just one of many examples of debunking this myth.

6. try this site
www.rememberjohn.com

I don't know if it has been updated, but it was pretty thorough on pre 9-11 info and after, too.
