I'd made a deal with the kid that she could watch Generic Kid's Show if I could get some work done....totally forgot it was on.
Very relieved there's a replay, I always like to catch Clinton. An excellent speaker who has perhaps spoiled me for most other political speakers.

7. KoKo! I just received a call from my Repub brother... |
|
telling me to turn on C-Span (shock, right there, since I didn't even know he EVER watched C-Span) and see "slick Willy"; I said "who is that, Willy Nelson?" (teehee) He said, "No, Clinton; he is giving a really good speech!" OMG, I nearly fell out of my chair! My brother praising Clinton! Maybe I've been getting through to him in our discussions of what "nitwit" has done to this country--cutting Vets benefits in half (my bro is a Viet Nam vet), trying to stop all overtime, tax cuts for the millionaires, union busting (he's a union man), etc., etc.! I think Hell has just frozen over!

26. I brought my very conservative boyfriend |
|
to the B*sh protest in Fort Lauderdale earlier this week. We used to get into screaming matches over politics. After months of me e-mailing him Truthout articles and stuff about 911/Iraq/B*sh, he goes with me and not only participates, but yells "Fall, Fascist, Fall" at a guy standing over the balcony of the Presidential suite at the Hyatt where * was "speaking." People around us looked at him with nervous snickers and I was shocked.
He also had a great quote that he gave to the person who was covering the protest for Randi Rhodes. Something to the effect of, "Look at the example we're setting for the rest of the world. We SEE your oil, we'll take your oil. We Came, We Saw, We Covet." The interviewers eyes kind of bugged out, like, wow, that was a good quote I just go there. She played it the next day on the radio. I can't tell you how proud of him I am.

13. I watched it all afternoon... |
|
I stayed on the C-Span thread while it was on. I kept thinking to myself, what a great day for the dems, what a great group of candidates we have to choose from, what a great PRESIDENT and speaker Bill Clinton was and still is. It was great to finally get on a "feel good" thread for a change. Sometimes it seemed as if Clinton was directly speaking to alot people right here at DU, when he said (I'll have to pp) 'It's ok to fall in love with your candidate, but fall in line when it's time to voting in the election'. I'm sure there will be a transcript of all the inspiring speeches from today on C-Span soon. I don't care how hokey it may seem to some, but it was a great day to be a democrat and nobody's bursting my bubble or raining on my parade, there are 14 mos. of ups and downs and I'm gonna savor every dem victory as much as I can, and I thought Harkin's Steak Fry was one of them.

Just saw the last couple of minutes, it was WONDERFUL.
You won't regret seeing these people on C-Span.
On edit:
When C-Span interviewed a few journalists afterwards, one of them said that Bill Clinton took some shots at the Supreme Court, and Chief Justice Rehnquist.
I'm got to hear this!

Very enthusiastic crowd, and wonderful, salt of the earth Iowa people all over the place. Whenever a candidate's name was mentioned: applause and whooping, EXCEPT when Lieberman's name was mentioned. He has made himself persona not grata around here, I believe.

I guess we know how the Sunday morning media whores will treat it, though. I only hope that CSPAN will repeat the program at a time when the masses are not watching football!!!! :eyes:

All of the candidates did well, and Harken was great. Of course, Bill Clinton was the best! Thoughtful, articulate, honest, well informed, AND NOT ONE NOTE OR TELEPROMPTER IN SIGHT.
makes one want to cry over what we have to look at day after day, Bush smirks and Rumsfeld swaggers.
2004, we take our country back!!

31. WOW!! It was Harkin who said that Rhenquist would ATONE |
|
for what the SC did in 2000 when on Jan 20, 2005, he has to swear in a Dem president....Dean finished his speech with a reference to stolen votes. I was SO GLAD TO SEE THESE GUYS referring to the stolen election! Dean looked GREAT in his open collar and storm jacket.
CLinton has lost weight and looks great. He kept repeating about how we have to talk about things people don't know about---all the cuts--and linking it to the tax cuts for the wealthy (his tax cut).
He talked about CHOICES the GOP made... He reiterated the importance of the budget issues and how they affect Americans and put down the Washington press who seem to say these issues don't matter.
Again, Clinton was emphasizing the concerns of THE PEOPLE.... and the Dem candidate MUST focus on these issues and in that manner.
For more, please check out the article that is posted at Buzzflash and in the URL below The Democratic Message in 2004: Looking Back to Find the Future.
I just wrote it and it really goes into this whole thing!!!!

32. I was there and it was so awesome |
|
We worked at Dean HQ in the morning (met him when he stopped by to use the rest room!! We sang to him!), went to his rally in the afternoon, and then walked over to the steak fry. All of the speeches were incredible and I cried almost the whole time Clinton was speaking. He is so amazing. I did not hear one offensive thing or anything I disagreed with. Of course, Lieberman was not there. Strangely, Gephardt was in attendance but did not speak.
Clinton said great things, but mostly I cried remembering what a real president sounded like.
We were in the rain all day, and it was so worth it.
