When did Greg Palast first write about the Florida Voter Purge? |
|
Did he run anything prior to the 2000 sElection? http://www.mediachannel.org/views/whistleblower/palast.shtmlAll I can find is that the stories first ran in the Guardian sometime in November of 2000. Even if it was after the actual vote the outcome was STILL in play! So it didn't make US media until 2001 in the Washingtone Post? I'm puzzled.

2. I read about it ealier than the Washington Post |
|
It was in a small article in the Scene, a progressive free Wisconsin paper. It was basically a summary of the Guardian article and lamented that the U.S. media did not report the real stories. I read it in the library. I am not sure of the date, but it was still wintery.

3. Palast complains that at the time... |

... the story ran on Newsnight and in the Guardian, he called some reporters and editors in the US, offering them the story, as well, in Nov. 2000, and got the "hey, that's really interesting, we'll check it out" routine; some did nothing, while others just called Harris' office for confirmation and dropped it when her office said, in effect, there's no story there.
There's some accounting of the US press' indifference in the chapter on this story in _The Best Democracy Money Can Buy_, I believe.
On edit, the filming for the Newsnight spot, I'm reasonably certain, was done in September, perhaps early October, 2000.
Cheers.

They announced DU with signs at Bush's selection parade.
Well, you can be sure we won't let something like that happen again. Missed the show today, but I'll catch it in the archives. BTW, I can get it streaming live on my Mac but the archived link doesn't work. Any clue?

6. Not DU. What about the FEC? What about the NYT? |
|
What about ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, CNBC, et cetera?
My head, my aching head...

7. You mean the "liberal" media? |
|
You already know the answer to the question. It's spelled oligarchy.

8. Well, what about 2002? |
|
The state of Florida had over two years to revise the list and reinstate the improperly purged voters, and that wasn't done in time for the 2002 elections. And that story didn't generate much more than a "huh, now what was that about, again?" from the press....

9. I know, I know, I know... |

There were a couple of articles but it was mostly ignored.
I guess the State's excuse was accepted (Or the situation deemed pre-lost) by the NAACP, the Democratic Party, the Greens, the ACLU and sadly...Me...
