Dems can back $87b and investigate Bush for misleading US to war (a rant) |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 07:52 PM by HereSince1628
The Democrats in Congress need to think twice before they give up on investigations into misuse of intelligence by Bush and his band of vipers.
I'll make this really simple... If my son drove the family pick-up into the lake to prove he wasn't afraid to be the first one to drive on the ice, I'd end up paying to have the thing recovered and either repaired or replaced. But I sure as hell wouldn't let him off the hook. There'd be a lesson to be learned and consequences for him. I wouldn't let him out of those consequences if he promised me that he'd deal with some of the things on my favorite wish list.
Well, Bush and company drove the whole country into this mess, and it probably requires that the Dems cooperate to try to recover as best we can. But damn it that doesn't mean caving in on investigations that could lead to elimination of the sources of malignant interpretation and politicization of the intelligence, as well as incompetence of 3 or 4 cabinet level officials in the Bush Administration. At minimum these people should be replaced so that their replacements will understand the consequences of failed performance. There is nothing incompatible with demanding accountability and voting for the $87b to fix the mess we created.
I really don't care if the Clintons, Daschle, Pelosi, the DLC, and half the Democratic Party backed the concept of getting rid of Saddam Hussien. That isn't the issue. There are right ways and wrong ways of taking the country to war and sleight of hand isn't one of them.
If Bush's justification for Gulf War II misled the world, the American people, our elected officials and most ashamedly the soldiers that were put in harms way...officials must be held accountable. Now.
Dems need to push for consequences and they need to do it before any similar events can be put in motion by the gang of incompetents directing our national security. Afterall, in today's America policy and action are based on pre-emption.
Please encourage you congressional delegation to pursue the truth.

4. You're damn right they can and SHOULD! |

It's a shameful weasely excuse because the lies that led the vast majority of Americans to believe that Saddam was about to nuke the US in concert with AlQuaeda are the reason we're being asked to spend $87 billion plus the $55 billion additional they admitted to but don't talk about, plus the $80-90 billion already spent in Iraq.
The bastards who refuse to put two and two together for the American people are responsible for enabling the Emperor's power grab here and abroad.

investigations revoke the super-wealthy's tax cut concessions to the UN force Bush to admit some truths so that folks who still believe Bush can get a handle on reality
