Schwarzenegger lacks L.A. business license, hasn't paid required taxes

Schwarzenegger lacks L.A. business license

Candidate applies after 5 years. His Santa Monica ventures also are being investigated.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has pledged to untangle California's finances, does not have a basic business license as landlord of a $1.2 million commercial building in Venice.

The candidate may also have run afoul of requirements in Santa Monica, where officials are looking into at least two businesses that lack licenses.

In Venice, Schwarzenegger has failed to pay a minimum of $110 a year in license fees since 1995 to the city of Los Angeles for the 8,228-square- foot building he owns at 812 Main St., site of the Broadway Gymnastics School.

Los Angeles finance officials said Schwarzenegger could be liable for penalties and interest spanning the past three years.

TORRES TO SCHWARZENEGGER: "PAY YOUR TAXES"

For Schwarzenegger to claim over the years that he is a successful businessman ("In business, I make all my own decisions" - The Toronto Star, Oct. 5, 1985) and have the Planet Hollywood Restaurant chain file for bankruptcy -- not once, but twice -- and now to find out that he operates businesses without a license, raises serious questions about the type of business person he is. Schwarzenegger needs to release all his records and his taxes for the last five years and his businesses.

Imagine how big this story would be if it was a Democrat illegally operating a business.

2. Interesting
I wonder how this will effect the campaign. Didn't Michael Huffington lose when it came out that he had hired an illegal alien himself?

4. It was actually worse than that
In his entire time in the House Huffington passed only one law. That law forbad people from taking illegal aliens in their employ across state lines. Something he routinely did. He is probably the only lawmaker in the history of the universe to violate every law he passed.

3. And his SM restaurant?
I've heard it's crappy, down on Main Street. I'm sure it actually has a license, but this is MOST interesting.

He's such an asshole. Anyone who supports this doofus needs his/her head examined.

5. Actually he needs several licenses to operate.

Alcoholic Beverage, City Business, Health Dept. to name the most important ones. On edit, they are also supposed to be prominently displayed for anyone to look at, if anybody wants to get nosey.

15. The restaurant is called Schatzies (spelling?)
and it's not bad. Me and the co-workers go there for Happy Hour ever now and then. It's weird, though: the bathroom has these two people speaking in German over the speakers instead of piping in music, or nothing at all. It's really weird.

17. If I worked in Santa Monica, I'd patronize the establishment and
make it a point to ask about the licenses. Oh, and what's their Health Department Inspection rating? A Big A in the window? Hope so.

6. I'm sick of these personal attacks against Schwarzenegger
Of course I hope he loses and that the recall is defeated, but I can't stand these sort of attacks. If you want to attack Schwarzenegger, attack his political agenda.

I hate attack-politics.

7. Operating his businesses legally is a political agenda.
If he can't follow the law and keep himself informed as to what licenses are required and taxes that must be paid for him to operate, why would we want him to be Governor?

8. Personal Attack???
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 08:52 PM by cryingshame
An example of a personal attack would be someone calling Arnold a moron.

However, when a candidate for a political office breaks the law then there is a legitimate question about whether they are reliable.

If Arnold doesn't abide by the rules in a country which is SUPPOSED to be run by Rule Of Law- then he has to answer for his actions.

9. This is a
political problem! Don't understand where you are coming from. Politicians should be held accountable starting in their back yard. I pay for licenses and permits and he is far more capable of this then I am. Should he get a free pass?

10. I would remind you that had this been a Democrat......
the Rethuglicans would have steamrolled them with this issue!
Arnie's little building could be unsafe (seriously) and it shows how irresponsible he is!!!

11. Arnold personally attacks Davis, this is not a personal attack
We only hear about "personal attacks" being bad when a Republican comes under attack.

12. God forbid we actually examine 'Ah-nolds' business record...
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 09:30 PM by Patriot_Spear
Give me a break.

Using your model, we should let Ken Lay run for Texas Governor without even mentioning a peep about Enron.

Ah-nold has never held public office, exactly how else are we going to examine his leadership ability? By the way he swung a sword as Conan?

Geez.

13. PERSONAL? NY Post DESTROYED the Dem candidate for Gov
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 09:47 PM by robbedvoter
because he wrote some recommendation letters for friends and family! They published headlines on it non-stop, until the schmuck apoligized and the last headline was : "SORRY" sprawled on page one. With that, he lost my support too.(not my vote - but I planned to volunteer up to that point)
So, you protect Arnie, see nothing good about Clark - what is it that you are so enraged about exactly?

16. No wonder he and The Pretzel-Dunce get along so well!
With bankrupted businesses and questionable practices, they have a lot in common--and I do mean "common".
