Watching replay of Harkin event--Edwards is impressing me!! |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 08:07 PM by CMT
No, I'm still a loyal and solid Dean man, but in the last few weeks Edwards has grown on me. I think his leaving the race for the US Senate enhanced it because he is showing that he is going for broke. His speech is strong and he is getting a good reaction. I can see why he has been gaining lately in states like Iowa and South Carolina. If he isn't our presidential candidate he might make a strong VP candidate.
Dean, too!! I love his "borrow and spend" line against the GOP--a old favorite of Reagan's thrown back in there face!! haha.

1. I loved the Harkin Steak Fry! |
|
I actually cried when Bill Clinton got up to speak. No, I don't normally cry at speaches and I don't advocate adultery, but if every person in America was fired for it, woooo! But the Bill Clinton I voted for twice and believed in his principles spoke today. He said what I want EVERY democratic contender to say. It was so eloquent and straight forward. No nonsense, no double-speak and exactly what I want to hear. Take note 9 or 10 of you. Please use President Clinton as your adviser if possible. The man knows what I want, and I fervently believe he speaks for the majority of us. Thank you C-Span!!!!!!

5. Hey, you can say that again. Edwards is getting stronger every day. |
|
I have liked him from the beginning. And I am thrilled that people are giving him a look and listen - and liking it.

It was my first time listening to him and I have to say I'm impressed. He needs to get his name and message out there in the media more. Really they all do, if Bush can have the crap kicked out of him night and day by all the candidates and then have all but one drop out we're guaranteed victory. It would be great to have them all constantly harping it'll be exactly like what the republicans do, only this time it'll be true.
Wouldn't that be a great strategy? Run ten candidates, have them all campaigning hard against Bush and a little against each other, everynight it's a new person saying the same thing about how Bush screwed up the war on terror, the Iraq war was wrong, the economy sucks, our schools are falling apart, every night another dem holding chimpy account for his horrible job.

6. Edwards was really good! Very "turned on" -- "Tuned Up!" Agree! |
|
Graham was a little flat.......but Harken and his wife.....are worth watching...and then Clinton's wonderful speech!
Hang in there....it's worth the wait!.......And, checking out the "Body Language" of all the candidates and the applause meter's of the audience. What "sound bytes" get most applause......what get's "polite" applause.......It's all so interesting.....and particularly since it's outside the stiff, formal settin of the "Debates."
Nice to see this and maybe the rain there "loosened everyone up!"

7. I definitely dig John Edwards... |
|
...he's a fantastic candidate, seems like a great guy, I just don't get why his campaign hasn't seemed to gain any traction. I honestly thought that Edwards would be the Dean contender in this primary, he'd be the one with the Time cover, etc. Oh well, I suppose.
Later.

12. He's just a big old turtle |
|
I think it's because, although he's a tough campaigner, he's not a barracuda who will say or do anything to get a sound byte on television.
But I think it's like the tortoise and the hare. He's just patiently moving along, building up support, laying out his policies and plans. He's gonna be fine.
Did you see the latest poll in Iowa? He went from 4% to 6%, which might not sound like much. But he's the only candidate who didn't lose ground to Howard Dean. I think that says a lot.
Keep the faith.

13. The reason we are not getting Edwards and others "out there" |
|
is because the media is refusing to let them speak publicly. This is all they have and the "debates". They can't get face time because the media needs more time for Laci Peterson, Snipers, and the disaster of the day. Think of what they could do instead. Think if they gave one of our guys a few minutes each day and then another the next day for a few minutes. That's why I was so impressed when I see them all in a debate---I don't see all this silly business about one guy was awesome and the other guy a dud. They all have been great. The media will pick our candidate, obviously........and that scares me because I know who's pocket they are in.

Bush takes up half of the media's attention. Laci, Kobe, and the granite prayer rock take up another quarter. And then the 9 candidates have to share the other 25% of the time with every other news story. Doesn't leave much time for any real insight.

I of course thought he was great....they all paled in comparison to Clinton, which I guess is to be expected.

I can't get over his vote giving Chimpy McCokespoon authority to invade Iraq. If he would just admit it was a mistake, a lot of us could get over it.

with his position on Iraq, but I sure as hell respect that he is sticking to his guns and not running away from his vote. He stands up like a man and says he voted that way, he stands by it and takes the hits as they come. That's pretty unusual.

is my one and only problem with Edwards. Everything else about his, I love. I've been thinking about his vote, and all I can think of is that Edwards is what I would call a "do-gooder liberal" ( as many of us on DU are actually ) I think he saw the Iraq situation as a way of helping the Iraqis. Too bad it turned to shit.
