I just heard the pledge of Allegiance with out the "under God"

on CSpan. It is a replay of the Wednesday dedication of Quayle's bust at the Capital. Whoever read the pledge said "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". And right in front of Poppy, Barb, Dickie Cheney and Lynne. Heads will have to roll for that. LOL

I wasn't watching the TV at the time so I don't know who the heathen was. But we got the chaplain saying a prayer so I guess we are covered.

4. The way it should be

The "under God" part wasn't even added until 1954 and it should have stayed in its original form. Trivia: Francis Bellamy had to leave his church as a pastor because of his socialist beliefs and abandoned organized religion all together in his later years because he thought the churches in the south were racist. This is not someone who would have wanted "under God" added.

5. "The Pledge" is All Wrong

Should be talking about the U.S. Constitution, not a piece of cloth. Rough analogy is one of those Ten Commandments admonishing those who worship objects rather than the concepts they represent.

I also think it's dumb for minors to recite. Minors can't vote, drink, gamble, or do any other responsible things (except maybe stand trial in adult court), so what business do they have pledging allegiance to anything (except maybe their parents)?

A Christian, I think that "sky daddy" is, hands down, the funniest euphemism for God that I have heard in a long time. LOL!!:)

10. okay, please tell me what was achieved by wanting "under God"

removed from the pledge? I'm as left as any of you, but this was stupid and you all know it. Instead of focusing more attention on human rights abuses committed by the administration in their war on terror, or pushing to find out how involved with Enron was the Bush Administration, we bitched about two words in the pledge of allegiance that most kids don't even recite anymore? Yeah this was a worthless cause considering what else could have been achieved (i.e. completely ruining Bush's chances at re-election).

Then again, I see the ruckus over that proposed flag-burning amendment and wonder about that. I see both issues from both sides. On the one hand it is wrong for a national pledge to invoke any religions deity, on the other, it's words, not law.

Flag-burning is the same thing to me. Ok freedom of speech, yadda yadda, I get that. Unfortunately some people's freedom of speech is other people's intense pain. I think that's where I draw the line, and I can respect the notion of banning the practice. If freedom means being allowed to cause others to suffer, maybe it's not always the best course.
